So i played a good hour to hour and a half of ghoulboy and I'm surprised it was released at all. The setting and graphics were pleasant but the game made no sense at all. It had a chance to be a nice throwback retro game but it was so broken and some odd choices ruined it.
For instance, you'd think if you wanted to buy items from the shop, you find someone in level to buy the items from. Well... you'd be wrong. You'd have to exit the level to go to the main menu and buy the items you want. Odd right? Weirdest part is there's actually a vendor who sells garbage items in level. Why not let him sell the stuff you actually need in the level instead of having to exit. Btw, there's tons of frame rate issues and stuff like that. Then there's some wierd issues like candles on the wall can be slashed for gold or health, but there's some that can't. There's no indication why some can be slashed and others can't. They're identical.
The BIGGEST issue I have though. Is that if you exit the level or dont press continue, you can do 1 of 2 things. Go to chapters which don't bring you to anything you been to before, which makes no sense. Or press continue. When you press continue it skips stages that you haven't been to yet and plops you in a brand new area even though you haven't finished the previous one. I recently got dropped into a boss fight even though I never got to him. I had to jump to different levels to keep playing the game.
The worst part is the Game itself is pretty decent. It's all this other garbage that comes with it. If it made sense, the core mechanics would make the Game actually good. But I just can't understand what they were going for here. They even took the time to make some pretty neat filters. But it kinda went to waste due to all these other issues.
I'd finish the Game if it were possible, but I can't even get back to where I died last, and after it happening a few times, I'm over the Game. Even at $3, I can't recommend it.
Do you want recommendations of terrible games to check out & verify just how bad they are, @NintendoByNature .... ? I'm sure we can come up with some, between everybody here
There's a big Bandai Namco sale in the US; Dragonball FighterZ is 18.99 and Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy is 19.99, as well as discounts on classic Final Fantasy games
@NintendoByNature I have been waiting for it to go on sale too because I’ve heard it’s really short. 9 cents is a no brained I spent that on membrane awhile back and loved it. I just checked both games out for the first level before I run off to do real life stuff but the controls were responsive in both games. Bird King seems fun, plays well and scratches that old school feel.
Hyper Sentinel is fun and that graphics are nice and look good while also feeling retro. I needed a little shooter like this.
@rockodoodle have they added content? I played for 75 hours when it came out and maxed out all my vaults at 200 people and I got bored :/ it was really fun for a long time though!
