Topic: Did some silly thing to my nintendo switch

After replacing the new back housing shell, I start cleaning my Nintendo switch using 70% alcohol.

I clean the whole console include the game card slot, I open the cover of the game card slot and start cleaning it using a q-tip with 70% alcohol. Cleaning the inside of the game card slot including the contact.

I am worried about the game card slot, will it rust?

I forgot to turn off the console while cleaning the game card slot.....

This is my first Nintendo Console, want to take good care of her:(

Why the hell would you clean up the inside of your console ? How much of that alcohol did you drink before committing such a stupidity ?

Anyway I'd turn the thing off and wait at least 24 hours before playing it again.

@Kidult0061 Unless you're playing your Switch outside in the middle of a sandstorm, there's no reason to open it up and clean it at this point.

If you let the alcohol evaporate, there's no reason to worry about rusting.

And yes, it's usually a good idea to turn the console off. I assume it still works?

@Tibob To remove the dust that builds up in a console over time. I usually thoroughly clean my consoles once every five years. It's not a bad idea, you'd be surprised if you knew how much dust those system can accumulate over time. However, there's no reason to open up the Switch after one year of use.

...You could take good care of it by not opening it up. It's not needed.

That alcohol solution is going to do more damage than a little dust or dirt. Keep doing that and I promise it will eat into the Switch plastic.

@ACK dont people use rubbing alcohol to clean actual circuit boards?

Has it improved the framerate at all?

@ValhallaOutcast Some plastics are fine to use with rubbing alcohol, but I doubt the Switch plastic will hold up. May be wrong, but I wouldn't risk it.

Some people have worn the plastic on their Switch with just their sweaty grip.

Then they got other issues to look at first before playing the Switch.
