@Snatcher Ah. I’m probably playing it on pc, like I did with the first one, given that they probably won’t release it on switch for about a year or so.

Beat it.

I'll say that it couldn't be as special as chapter 1, for similar reasons chapter 1 couldn't be as special as Undertale. That's borderline the only notable issue I have with it. Though I will say, I do feel I've become less excited with some entertainment lately, even when its obviously great. This happens sometimes in general, but its happened a lot lately for me(even though this is the example of that I enjoyed the most).

I actually have maybe nothing to say about it that isn't specifically spoilers, so I won't bother. It's great. Everyone who agrees, already knew that going into it, pretty much.

I beat it, and it felt way better than chapter 1 of the game, or undertale in my opinion. The ending scene is really great, and leaves me wanting more. The gameplay itself is way more unique than undertale ever was, and the feeling that this game has is also great as well.

It's not as lonely as undertale, feeling like you're on a proper adventure with friends. They say your choices don't really matter in the story, but There's a whole alternate route that you can explore in the story if you know the steps to achieve it. Honestly, it's a great game, and I really can't wait for the rest of it in order to see how the story itself unfolds.

@VoidofLight Man it sounds so good, I can't wait for a switch port.

I still haven't played through Chapter 1. I have a few hours in it after I heard so many good things about Undertale, but it's just not jiving with me for some reason. I can see why lots of people like it, but it's just a little too wonky for my taste.

These chapters are too short for this kind of drip feeding.
I assume it will take a while for the complete game to come out.
Maybe I shouldn't bother, but I know I can't resist sucking up Chapter 2 the day it comes to Switch.

@SKTTR I mean, they’re not going to drip feed the rest of the game. 3-7 are being released all at once, when the game is fully complete. Chapter 2 is also way longer than 1, being nearly 5 hours long.

Super excited for the full release. Gameplay wise chapter 2 was way better than both chapter 1 and Undertale, and the humour and character writing was stellar. People complain about the story not being as in depth or clever as Undertale’s, but it’s only 25-30% of the way through and has already set up a ton of interesting threads that will hopefully be explored later.

@Munchlax To me, the story is already better than undertale’s. Undertale barely had a story, but had some interesting lore when it came down to it. This game has a bigger story, and more interesting lore that ties itself to one certain individual.

I'll be playing more of chapter 2 tonight.

@VoidofLight Toby said 3-5 will be released at once, with 6 and 7 coming at a later date.
I still wouldn't call that drip feed, but it seems clear we're not getting the rest at once.

Anyways.
I thoroughly enjoyed Chapter 2. I was recently replaying Undertale to show the game to my brother, and while the game is still great it made me appreciate Deltarune more. Toby's witty style of writing works best when characters bounce off of each other's personalities, which happens a lot more in Deltarune than Undertale (The Sans and Papyrus segments of Undertale is probably my favorite part of the game for that reason). So to have party members on top of multiple persistent antagonists makes Deltarune Chapter 2 peak Toby Fox for me.

VoidofLight

@Seacliff Oh. Where was this said by the way? Since the steam listing only says chapters 3-5 are coming at a later date as a paid release.

Big post, so I'll quote.

"Originally I had planned to release chapters only when all them are finished, but honestly, it's hard both for creators and fans to go a long time without a release. So, I changed my mind. I think most people will be happy about this.

My next goal is to complete Chapters 3, 4 and 5 for next time. Then, at that time I will ask for people to buy the game, at the price of the first 5 chapters (including 1 and 2). I don't know the price yet, but it's definitely going to cost more than UNDERTALE.

So, next time you want to ask "when's chapter 3", you can ask "when can I buy Chapter 3/4/5? I'll give you a lot of money".

... I won't know the answer until it's done, though."

@Seacliff I will buy it, I will buy em all!

So I start chapter two, and, I'm loving the hell out of it thus far, the writing is just fun, the game play great, the music amazing, I was a little surprised about that boob joke TBH but idk why?

Just beat it. and its amazing, everything is a step up from undertale, even the story, Just from the ending alone, it makes me graving more.

All the hints to bosses later, just the fact the story is just an RPG mechanics flipped on its head, The secret boss was also amazing. 10/10!

@Snatcher Honestly, it's really apparent now that Undertale was effectively just a tech demo for Deltarune.

I mean, that's what happens when you go from getting a few thousand dollars from a kickstarter to a multi-million selling game that everyone knows.

@kkslider5552000 I mean, not even that, but Deltarune came first. It was the game Toby originally planned on making I believe.
