Is there a precedent for announcements of new systems to drive up the costs of classic games or systems? Especially the games for the system it is replacing? The collector in me is wondering, especially with the likely chance that NX does not feature physical backwards compatibility. Could Wii U and 3DS games go up in price quicker than in years past, if at all?
I know one game I plan on picking up ASAP: Beyond Good and Evil for the GC

Well, I don't know if the new announcements affected the price, but look at some Gamecube games, like Path of Radiance. It's extremely expensive....
Personally, I think that some Wii U games that had a short run, like the original print of Pikmin 3 or Tokyo Mirage Sessions may go up in the short term future. For collector types, the Nintendo Selects version won't cut it and I remeber Pikmin 3 being almost impossible to find.
On the other hand, 3DS games have aren't difficult to find so I don't think there will be a price hike soon.
I suspect most Wii U gems will go up in price. Even the Wii U itself since it'll be something of a rarity in the coming years as retailers clear out stock and collectors begin trying to buy it all up as a piece of gaming history.

Only to realise that the collector's market for Wii Us isn't that big at all, and that they put more money into it than they can get out of it.
