It was a long-delayed and very quiet release that got almost no press, but Circuit Superstars is a game with a real following on Steam, and who doesn't love a top-down racer that controls well? The Switch port plays great so far... I'm impressed. NintendoLife should do a feature or a review of this one.
This game definitely deserves attention for being so charming, and a real fine balance between arcade and light sim. I'm really enjoying it so far.
@Magician
Definitely better than Super Pixel Racers... although that is a fun game and I did play through most of it. I haven't played Mantis Burn Racing... but Circuit Superstars is quite a bit more visually appealing and charming.
I have it for ps4/5 and the game is great. It plays really well. My few gripes about the game are so oddly specific and in no way really affect the game itself.
I’ll share them here but I’m sure they are probably a me problem.
1. The cars are not to scale, as in they are cartoonified with a short wheelbase, I would have preferred if the scale was more accurate to real life
2. Tracks rubber in too much and too soon. The rubber from the tyres marks the race track way too much. It’s purely a visual thing. Would be good to turn down.
3. There is a wee bit too much bloom for my liking.
I play the game somewhat regularly, I’ll do a wee race here and there and my “complaints” are very minor but the game does so much well.
Cars are all different, there are enough cars and tracks, more would be welcomed though. Online works great. Practice/free play is very zen like. Game sounds imo fit perfectly. The general setup of the game is great in terms of available races etc. a mission mode would have been nice.
One thing I would say though is if you're going to play on switch, use a controller which has analogue triggers.
I've played the game for a few days now. There are some graphical hitches here and there. I'm hoping they can patch those out. But I do love the feel of the game. The cars have some real weight to them, so if you aren't figuring out your racing lines and getting your nose pointed in the right direction at the apex of the corners... you are going to lose. It's got a pretty unique and amazing balance of arcade and sim gameplay, and I love the longer races with pit stops. It seems like you really can go easy on your tires and try for one less pit-stop than some of the other racers. It's real racing strategy, but it's approachable and it's actually fun.
I tried to one-stop a 15 lap race and misjudged my fuel and tire usage... complete disaster!
