Topic: Can't download SNES Online app due to age restriction

I bought my daughter a Switch for Christmas and wanted to download the NES and SNES Online apps. I was able to install the NES app, but the SNES app says it is age restricted. I went into the parental controls app and turned off the age restrictions, but still couldn't download it. So far, all the other games let her install them, and then I could Whitelist them if they were above her age rating, but I can't seem to do this with the SNES app. Any suggestions on how to get around this?

@GhostITMG That's weird, because parental control changes are instantaneously applied to the console. That's a good question. Ask one of the nice people at Nintendo support via chat messenger or phone line. They're usually pretty helpful. Chat messenger is mega handy. I used it a month ago and a couple other times. They're on Seattle WA work schedule. The messenger will be grayed out if they are closed for night.

EDIT: let us know how you resolved it, in case someone else runs into the same problem.

Thank you @WoomyNNYes. It seems that a lot of this has to do with chat and other things being disabled for anyone under 13 years old so there is no work around for it. Nintendo Support was very helpful, but it seems my only solution is to wait until my daughter is older.

That's my experience with Nintendo support as well. Super polite sorry.

I ran into this with my 6 year old. Just add your adult account to the switch and download the NES and SNES app using that account. Once its downloaded and installed the normal app restrictions apply based on your parental settings and anyone on the switch can play the app.

Did anyone figure this out? I added my account to the Switch, but the online individual membership we purchased was under my son’s account. He’s the only account that can access the SNES download for free. But we still have the age restriction issue!

I had the same issue as the @GhostITMG. I changed his restrictions under parental controls and was able to download the NES software, but not the SNES software.

I FOUND A WAY!!!! I, along w/MANY others, tried removing parental blocks, age restrictions, ect. Instead of going to the Nintendo Switch Online app, go to the E-shop! Scroll down to Nintendo Switch Online on the left, then scroll down to the Special Offers section. The free download for NES, SNES, and Gameboy should be there!

I just made a account with my age and different email and let my nephew use that on the Switch OLED I let them use. This avoids those age restrictions that really doesn't do much but hinder game play. Like they said if there is the Will they kid will find it restricting doesn't stop it.
