I'm contemplating a monitor. One is 75hz and another 144hz. Some people say this will look terrible with 30fps gaming
Maybe you should contact Nintendo Support and get the real answer. Never heard of 75hz unless your not in NA. Most are 60hz or 120hz(cheating no true) or 144hz really expensive but good to use. Those people telling you are obvious just Trolling you. Also the Switch does run at 60fps when Docked otherwise the Game would state otherwise.
I was wondering im wanna get a monitor for my nintendo switch oled and im thinking about getting this monitor callled Alienware 240Hz Gaming Monitor 24.5 Inch Full HD Monitor with IPS Technology, Dark Gray - Dark Side of the Moon - AW2521HF and it has 2 HDMI plug ins. Would i be able to play on this monitor with my nintendo switch oled
@Alexpoles1469 If it has hdmi ports, I think you're good to go? Unless someone knows something I don't. When I visit family, we've always hooked my Switch up to a PC monitor in the office.
I also found aout about another one because i realized that the alien ware one had only HDMI 2.0 and i dont think the switch supports it. Its called Dell 27 Curved Gaming Monitor – S2721HGF and it has a hdmi output of 1.4 so i think it would work with my switch@WoomyNNYes
@Alexpoles1469 The HDMI standards are all backwards compatible so a monitor with a higher HDMI spec than your source device (Switch) is fine - actually better if you plan to upgrade or connect something else later. 2.0 probably added 4k/60 or something over 1.4
It's when the monitor is a lower spec than the device that you'll have issues - although it'll still work, you just won't get the features of the higher spec - plugging an Switch into a HDMI 1.0 monitor for example would still work, just wouldn't give you any of the features that were added later.
Edit: Something else to watch out for is that not all monitors have built-in speakers. I use a couple of 24" Acer monitors on my PC and they don't - not an issue if I'm using the PC as the speakers are plugged into it directly, but not great for Switch
@Alexpoles1469 I've never paid attention to what my brother's monitors are. I just plug into the hdmi port. As @dmcc0 mentioned, newer hdmi are backward compatible. Another very good point, not all monitors have speakers. Make sure the monitor has speakers, if you want them.
@Alexpoles1469 I guess the first place I'd look is Micro Center. I noticed they have a Monitors section under Gaming, and another under Computers. Last I knew, Micro Center doesn't have a lot of locations. At the top of the micro center page, there's a "My Store: Shippable Items. I guess I don't how much they ship. But it's at least a place to look, I guess. Maybe someone else know's a good place to look online. I don't know, is Best Buy is a good place to look? (asking rhetorically)
I know which monitor im gonna get all i need to know is that the monitor has a HDMI plug in but its version 2.0 can i still use my nintendo switch oled with that monitor
Like @dmcc0 mentioned in a post earlier, I'm pretty sure newer hdmi version are backward compatible. I've never heard of newer hdmi, like 2.0, not accepting older hdmi products. Have you? Plenty of people have older game consoles, cable boxes, and dvd players, etc, that aren't hdmi 2.0. I sometimes use use my OG launch day switch on my 2018 Samsung 4K TV - that has hdmi 2.0 ports.
I won't claim to know everything. If you need something more official, I guess you'll have to look around. Off hand, here's CNET on the topic:
Will I need a new cable?
NO! Well, probably not. Here is the exact quote from HDMI.org: "Version 2.0 of the HDMI Specification does not define new cables or new connectors. Current High Speed cables (category 2 cables) are capable of carrying the increased bandwidth." Emphasis mine. Here's another direct quote: "HDMI 2.0, which is backwards-compatible with earlier versions of the HDMI specifications..."
@Alexpoles1469 I use my Xbox Series S with a 10 year old HD TV and it works just fine, and there are folk on this forum using brand new TVs with HDMI 2.1 with their Switch with no issues. 2.0 with Switch will be fine. The HDMI cable that comes with the Switch is good too.
@Alexpoles1469 You can't control Switch games with keyboard & mouse. However, the Switch will accept a usb keyboard plugged into the dock for entering text. It's not very practical though because, there are so few places to enter text on the Switch. Keyboards are plug and play. If you have a keyboard plugged into the dock, you can type in search words on eshop, or youtube search bar on the switch.
I do plug a usb keybaord plugged into the dock for text chat in Rocket League. I don't know any other games that have that feature though.
