Topic: Can you play the classics 2 player locally?

Hi, i have started the free trial of Switch online to play some of the old games. I am trying to play the original Super Mario Bros 2 player. The game only seems to work when the controllers are attached to the console and playing it on the screen rather than the Tv. When starting the game with the controllers detached and on the tv nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

@ChrisE Have you tried when in-game or out of it, re-doing the controller order in the controller menu?
