Most of Capcom's big games could be made to run on Switch. But would require a lot of extra work on Capcom's part that they have shown little to no interest in doing, and an unwillingness to contract that work out.
It's a modified version of RE Engine specific for Switch. All the previous RE Engine games (RE 7, DMC 5, RE Remakes 2 & 3) would have to be rebuilt from the ground up on the new engine. They could run on Switch, pared down to a certain degree. But who would be footing the bill for that?
Nintendo? Unlikely considering a new RE game is in development for Switch and PC a la Monster Hunter Rise. Capcom? Possible, but only if they deem it highly profitable to do so.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,536 games (as of December 14th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
It might run on Switch but it looks like Capcom decided that the dev time and downgrades required wouldn't be profitable - if it was, we would have seen it by now.
Generally, cross platform games don't sell very well on Switch (look at the charts, it's the same 5 or so games that have been there for 12+ months).
Capcom has probably realised following the success of Rise, that they are better off developing Switch exclusive titles rather than messing around porting the bigger and prettier games across.
@Magician any evidence. All I just found is that Rise uses the RE engine.
Even if it could run on switch, it is just going to take Capcom time to do it.
But we are also glaringly missing 2 and 3 on switch. It wouldn’t matter for people on google stadia has they only have Biohazard and Village so they don’t need to play any previous games.
But on switch it is WAYYYYYY more noticeable than it is on like google stadia
I'd honestly prefer the original versions of those games, as a collection, preferably.
There's plenty of ways to play the remakes right now, but the originals are only on legacy systems currently. Having them on the Switch would be a nice current-gen retro exclusive.
The remake was fun, it was more of a reimagining (even more so than 2 Remake!), but I enjoyed it.
Curiously, the remake and original are about the same length anyway, even with the perceived cut areas. I think they just shifted that playtime around. So I can appreciate both versions for their unique takes on the events.
I do wish they hadn't cancelled development on all the dlc though. It needed it.
The RE Engine as it was used in Monster Hunter Rise seemed to have been heavily toned down to suit the Switch hardware. Considering RE7 got the cloud treatment and RE3 Remake is reportedly getting someting similar, Switch probably isn't equipped to natively handle the multiplatform RE Engine games like the Resident Evil games or Devil May Cry 5
And considering stuff like Monster Hunter Rise, Ghosts n' Goblins and that rumored Switch/PC exclusive Resident Evil game, it looks like for the most part Capcom might be instead prioritizing supplying Switch with exclusive games or games specifically built for the hardware instead of trying to bring their bigger multiplatform games over
@TheFrenchiestFry I doubt it too but Capcom still seems to be fine with porting games to switch still (The Great AA Chronicles is an example even though it doesn't use RE Engine).
