Same here for XCX but I'll admit I didn't have a clue what type of game it was and bought it simply off the back of being a Xenoblade game. It's the type of busywork, story-minor RPG I really struggle with.
I don't like the idea of "wasting time". I think any time I spend playing games instead of doomscrolling and rocking back and forth in anxiety is a good thing!
Also, if you're not enjoying a game, don't you simply play something else? I don't tend to play games I'm not actively enjoying.
I've supp'd for months on naught but broth of bean
The time you enjoy wasting isn't wasted. We're technically wasting time doing anything we do. It's about trying to enjoy the time, when you can, while you're still here. Watching or playing sports, video games, gardening, hiking, movies, Traveling, being a pokemon card collecting historian, whatever(etc). it's all about persueing the things that bring you enthusiasm, passion, joy and happyness and finding your tribe of people that share similar interests so you can share your experiencess with one another and feed off the things you love.
And I hate it though when people expect other peoples opinions to nearly always align with their own. You wind up getting trapped in a hive mind. Just that dellusional toxic positivity where people will shut you down just for voicing cristism towards said game or whatever it is. We're not going to be receiving some glorious shiny badge of honor in the afterlife for mindlessly defending multi billion dollar mega corporations.
And I especially hate it when people act as if their hobbie(s) are the single greatest thing ever and it's above whatever else somebody else is into. It's almost like certain people try to reinforce or project what they like on to you and want you to like what they like even if it ends up making you unfufilled and unhappy. As they say, if you live by the rules of others you will be miserable.
The "Think like I do, do as I do-doers?" No thanks! I'm good. The world can often feel like it's flooded with crazed control freaks. The human adult race mostly in a nut shell > Hypocritical, double standered', opinionated tribalistic chimps that pretty much take zero accountability for their actions. lol Hence this thread topic. Video games will be a waste of your time if you're not enjoying them. So go and try and enjoy doing something else. But with any hobbie, if done in excess, like it basically eating up nearly all of your free time after work and nothing else, than it can become a big problem. You essentially just wind up transforming into an addict, obviously, which most likely will lead to major regrets later on down the road.
@NeonPizza People who tend to come off like that are just looking for validation. Deep down they are just not happy with themselves and looking to fill in the void in their life by doing something and in the end they are not happy with it. They then sink all this time and maybe money into this hobby and so they have to justify to themselves by projecting that their hobby is the greatest and nothing can compare to the one they choose and everyone is wrong but them for choosing a different hobby or interest.
The ones that crack me up the most are the ones that claim that they are hard-core into that hobby because they spend X amount of money on it each month or they spend more time doing it then you do. They know they entire history of said interest and then some. Yeah ok that not hard-core thats you have nothing else in your life there buddy.

That's why I appreciate the specific wording instead of just basing it off of time spent + regret. City Folk was a waste of my time because it was just the worst Animal Crossing and mostly Wild World again there was nothing of value for me, not a ton of fun gained.
Compared to my problematic fav Xenoblade 2, where the best parts are some of the best in video games, and a lot of the worst time wasting fundamentally changed how I look at some video games. It is obviously good I put an absurd amount of time in it, for multiple reasons, even IF a part of me wish some of it I spent on other things. I will never forget when it took me four hours just do one room of the main quest and 1/3 of one of the blade quests. Hilariously memorable time wasting, worth it just for the memory.
