Meanwhile the AC collections had the first game of each collection (AC2 and Black Flag) on the cart while the other games (Revelations + Brotherhood for Ezio Collection, Rogue for Rebel Collection) were free downloads from the eshop acting as DLC.
That's much, much worse because you can't wirelessly back-up DLC for posterity, and if you were to play the game on a secondary console, you wouldn't be able to without an internet connection as there is DLC associated with the software (which is perhaps the most infuriating thing about "free DLC", when it really should be woven into a software update instead).
At least if they spawned individual icons on the cartridge, players can effectively delete the "update data" of any game that they're no longer interested in playing if they wish to save space. But because of how redownloads of DLC work, you cannot choose to redownload individual items of DLC if you have "purchased" multiple items. So, if you've redeemed all of the "free downloads", you'll have to allocate about 50GB or so for every Assassin's Creed "collection", even if you only want to play one specific game.
Ultimately, cartridges that spawn icons for each game, even if they're unplayable without a download, are still preferable to one-time use download codes, because you can still sell the collection in its entirety and/or use it across multiple consoles without an internet connection, and you can back-up the data that isn't on the cartridge provided that you have a back-up Switch.
@Sisilly_G
That's actually not the case, though I understand why many believe it to be so. The solution isn't readily apparent.
You can in fact download piecemeal after redeeming DLC.
1) Delete software. All of it. Make sure it's not installed, and not archived (it may work as archived also but I can't confirm) 2) On eShop in Re-Download Software section, hold L and select the game to re-download. Only the base game without DLC will be installed 3) Cherry pick the DLCs to install from the game's store page
I had Assassin's Creed Ezio installed but without the additional videos and stuff, despite claiming and originally installing them. Same for Rebel Collection. Due to space constraints, I was able to delete, re-download base game of Black Flag, then selectively download Rogue after the fact, skipping all the art book/video stuff which saved quite a few GB.
edit
I may have misunderstood- you may be explicitly referring to cartridges? In either case, this is a handy trick to know about for digital purchases. And I'm fairly certain it may work for physical carts also, since the DLC is a "digital purchase" all the same. Give it a shot at least.
@JaxonH : Ah, yes. Cheers for clarifying. You're right there. I had forgotten that you could do that. I don't know if I wasn't remembering it correctly because I was under the impression that the option to Redownload purchased games was greyed out via the game's page and that they could only be downloaded via the "Redownload" list in one's account. I wonder if I was mistaken there or if that was something that was subsequently fixed in a system update.
Porygon did nothing wrong.

This has been my number one most wanted 3rd party release all generation. This and Mass Effect Trilogy, but I knew that wasn't happening because EA.
@Sisilly_G
Idk why they make it so convoluted- you should be able to install or uninstall individual dlc. But... it is what it is. At least there's a way. I freaked out a few years ago after having downloaded the JP voice pack for the original Fire Emblem Warriors, and couldn't figure out how to revert to where it wasn't installed.

I'm so curious about how Arkham Knight will look and play on the Switch. Since I already have the game on PC, I won't be getting this version, but still just want to know. Will it have horrendous performance, or actually be decently optimized? Hopefully, it's the latter since I don't want someone's experience in the game to be affected by it.
I’m in the same boat with AK. It ran horribly on pc when it was released. I’m wondering how optimized the game will be? Will it slow the switch to a crawl when it rains?
All depends on how much work they put in to translating the experience into more of a PS3/360 grade experience. It's definitely possible. Just look at Asylum, City and Origins. Games still look nice at 7th gen level.
But my expectation is that Knight will be partly reworked for Switch, but not 100% optimized. So 720p docked, 540p handheld. Definitely won't look as nice as Asylum and City, but I imagine it will at least pass the bare minimum threshold for most.
But, the dev team porting it is good, and they have all the assets from the other 2 games to rework assets. So, they may surprise us. But I'm definitely not expecting a disaster. A bit subpar with resolution? Ya, probably. But not a disaster.
But, even if it is, the other two games will be mint. That's enough for me to stake my claim in this W

The state of the physical release irks me. I would've gladly paid $60 to have AA and AC (about 24GB total) on a 32GB cartridge. But all three of these games are high quality. And for WB to serve those up at a $50 price point...is difficult to be mad about.
Most likely though I'll wait for the physical to be deeply discounted.
I'll be eager to pay $25 for a physical copy of AA that includes digital copies of AC and AK.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,540 games (as of January 28th, 2026)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
I went to a Batman Day exhibit today which had loads of props from the movies and art from the comics. They also had a demo station of the Arkham games running on a Switch. I only saw Arkham City but it was running perfectly.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Turn Me Up also handled the Switch ports of Tony Hawk 1&2 Remastered and It Takes Two. The Tony Hawk port is decent enough. I heard It Takes Two runs fairly well. Borderlands runs fantastically. So it seems they can get 360 games running decently so I hope Asylum and City are near perfect. Knight will look like every other PS4-era Switch port. Regardless, I already pre-ordered it at my local game shop. Traded in Gotham Knights to help pay for it! ; )
@BJQ1972 No, it is not cloud version. Recently, videos of people playing all three games on Batman Day were shared on one of DC's Facebook or Instagram pages. If it was cloud, they would have stated it from the beginning.
@BJQ1972 I noticed some info that suggests Arkham Knight is a native port. On the eshop page of the trilogy, at the bottom it says "Requires download of at least 53GB."
There's no way that Arkham Asylum + City is 53GB if Asylum is only 6.8GB, I'd guess it's going to be something like:
Arkham Asylum - 6.8GB (this is the file size currently shown on the eshop)
Arkham City - around 9.5GB (just big enough that putting it on the cart would've meant having to use the super expensive 32GB carts)
@Grumblevolcano nice. Just noticed Arkham city says it's a 14MB download too, so looks like the info is incorrect on eshop - I hadn't noticed the note about 53GB before.
