I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I set my high score on my 2nd go last weekend and haven't been able to top 2.5m since. It's frustrating the life out of me. I'm just going to settle for what I got I think.
Played a few more runs and can only very marginally improve my score and don't know what else to try or change. Hence I am sticking with 2, 785, 500. I had @oorwullie in my sights but just couldn't pass him on this occasion.
Also well played @DashKappei - sorry you had so much trouble with registering scores. I'm sure everyone will be happy to accept your scores with a photo. What more can you do. Best of luck with the Switch repairs. After hearing about people losing their save data when sending their Switch to Nintendo for any sort of repairs my nerves would be shot to pieces right now if I were you. Fingers crossed you don't suffer the same mishap.
@Lroy Yeah I posted the pic I have on the previous page. Unfortunately I didn’t expect the scores to not be registered so I wasn’t prepared to snap a pic the first time so there’s no proof for that score. 😠 But I’m ok with having just the second score accepted since it’s the only score with the pic... I play these challenges for fun and in the end what is cool to me is that scoring almost 3.5M I was up there with the best 😏😊
Anyway, I’m not that crazy and I fought teeth and nails to only have the joycons shipped, the console is staying with me 😬😜
Hopefully you guys choose a game I don’t like or game I also have on PS4.
Btw, can’t wait for City Connection to hit Switch’s ACA, always loved it.
Also I want Ms. Pac-Man, stat.
I’m a pretty good Pac-Man/Ms Pac-Man/Pac-Man CE player
@DashKappei I'm cool with whatever score buddy. Well played. And that's a relief to hear you only sent in your Joy-Con. Do you have a Pro Controller or a second set of Joy-Con?
I've not heard of CITY CONNECTION, shall look up some gameplay footage. As for more PAC-MAN games coming to Switch: fingers crossed Namco decide to add DLC or a second collection to their NAMCO MUSEUM on Switch.
So, I've been ranting about playing something different, and while my pick for this weeks chase is different, it isn't as different as I would have wanted. BUT, considering we started this month of chasing leaderboards on NEOGEO games, I figured we close out this fun month of high scores the same way.
So.....
Mutation Nation is our next challenge!
And with my pick, I will also like to announce that I'll be taking a break - after this week - from the chase. It might be a good idea for us to season these chases off with breaks in-between, so some of us can save money, play other things, etc. Just an idea. 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off would be nice.
Last thing, I scored my 4,246,000 out of my studio, so I couldn't capture. BUT, as a thank you to everyone on the bottom of the Top 10s - for not giving up and continuing to chase and be willing to learn and keep this thing alive - I captured a last effort for you as soon as I stepped in. It was only a 3,8m run BUT it's my exact route for my high score. The only difference between my high score run and this one is I was more unlucky with drops, kills, and sloppy in my reflexes. Hope this helps clue you into what it took to get my score.
Not even close on this challenge, didn't post. Couldn't get much time in, busy week. Congrats to Qualitybeats and the rest of the leaders, well played!
@Qualitybeats Congrats again buddy. I'll certainly check out the video for pointers on what I can do differently to improve in the future.
MUTATION NATION aye? Wasn't expecting that one. Happy to give it a go though in Caravan mode. Be interesting to see how a side-scrolling beat-em up lends itself to a high-score chase.
Cheers also for your input in terms of whether we should factor in down weeks into these challenges. I'm flexible either way but can see your point - even if we just make it a week off. I've been lucky so far in terms of expenditure as I already owned all four games - PULSTAR/ AERO FIGHTERS 2/ SHOCK TROOPERS/ MUTATION NATION previously. But I can see your point in terms of others having to buy a new game every week. That said, I am more than willing to pick up games for these challenges and we can always pick and choose which weeks we don't want to participate due to not fancying the game or other commitments etc.
For my part, I'll go with whatever the group decide. Looking forward to the coming week and good luck everyone taking to the streets to punch and kick mutants!

@Qualitybeats Dude, congratulations! Absolutely tremendous job! The path people takes makes a big difference, aside from the drops, and I can see some improvements I can make on mine to tighten it up. Thanks for that! I wouldn't mind a break to catch up on other games, too. And it's good thing I already have Mutation Nation, I gotta save some money for later this month for the Wii Shop closing.
@CW13 Don't worry, get 'em next time! It also helps to check out some high score vids on YouTube.
@Lroy Nah, not this time, I'm afraid. I didn't have it in me- or rather, the baddies didn't have enough gems in them, lol. Going back a bit, I have some of the generally 'better' NEOGEO fighting games, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, The King of Fighters '98, Samurai Shodown II and IV. Others are on my wish list, The Last Blade, World Heroes Perfect (probably the only one worth getting), and Fatal Fury Real Bout. And then there's Fighter's History Dynamite. Which, if the cast and certain mechanics wasn't so unbalanced, I'd almost put it up there with SFII Turbo Hyper Fighting, maybe Super Turbo(?!). At high level play, almost any fighting game looks great, though. Here's a stream of FHD from last weekend, for instance.
And of course, a replay of my Shock Troopers run. Good luck to everyone this week! Now I gotta go try to grab my 64GB microSD from an Amazon locker before the store closes.
Congrats to @Qualitybeats superb score and a great choice of game for the new Weekly Challenge. Well played everyone.
I'll update the leaderboard just now. Apologies for being late again, took the Switch downstairs to play some Layers of Fear on the big screen after updating the leaderboard and ended up falling asleep on the sofa. As for taking a break for a week or 2,I'm fine with whatever the group wants to do.
That ended up being one incredible score.
Couldn't get even near that and looking at the replay, it's obvious why. I never took into account not getting past level one, or not even seeing the boss for that matter, but instead milking for enemies. hmmm
Not really sure about Mutation Nation myself. Haven't played the game enough to know if there are some special techniques in there that would lend itself to high score chasing or if it'll just be a trial in efficiency.

I'm taking a week off to (hopefully) finish The Mummy Demastered and Mario Rabbids, and maybe taking a break after this horrible week (been snowing a lot here in northern Italy, so everyday at 5.30 AM I've been shoveling snow for an hour in order to reach the office), but I will closely follow the topic.
Good luck to everyone!
The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on.
Don't have Mutation Nation, so I'll be sitting this one out. Good luck to all in the challenge! Trying not to buy any more dl games unless a decent sale. Hoping for decent my Nintendo rewards in March with the Switch when that starts. Have so many gold points waiting to be registered!
I still have to go over “tape” of my Mutation Nation runs and figure out the mechanics of this scoring system. Not quite sure where the depth is but it’s there. I’m pretty sure we’re aiming for max hits and closers in this one. I’ll have more info in the next few days.
@Qualitybeats
Thanks, man. As of my last run, i was right below @LRoy on the leaderboard.
The biggest challenge i think is trying to balance wanting to go for maximum hits while still progressing at a decent clip. My first few runs i kept either running out of time right in the middle of the first level boss fight or just getting sloppy trying to rush through the level.
Welcome @the_shpydar, glad to have ya! We've currently been doing HAMSTER's ACA caravan mode. So that means it's the highest score you have by the end of the 5 minutes. Take a picture or screenshot of the score and post up (you can press + and check the Online Rankings if you miss the shot). I use Tinypic for the copy/paste bbcode for this forum, you can also use twitter or other pic host that you can link to. A couple of us even upload our video capture to YouTube!
End time for this challenge is 11:59PM UK time next Thursday! Winner gets to pick the next game for the challenge (though we might be taking a break for the following week so we can get to our other games, lol). Any other arcade-style game with a focus on score, with no continues, looks to be the consensus. We've done Pulstar, Aero Fighters 2, and Shock Troopers so far. The game choice doesn't have to be a NEOGEO game, it's just convenient that HAMSTER's Arcade Archive series has a built-in timed scoring mode with global leaderboards. We've even name dropped games like Metal Slug and ZeroDiv's release of the Strikers 1945 series (which Strikers doesn't have a Caravan mode, so that would probably default to 1 a credit run).
Also, these arcade games are reasonably priced, which is always something to take into consideration for the next pick. However, the most expensive game we've talked about doing is Namco Museum. Though for the price ($30, IIRC) 10 of the 11 games included can feasibly be used for the challenge, so there's more bang for the buck there.
The weekly challenge is the brainchild of @OorWullie, though we're all cool to field any questions you might have! We're pretty casual, here
@Qualitybeats
Ah, so the combo system is linked into the scoring system? Interesting.
Might give it a go later today.
New Neo Geo games announced btw:
Real Bout Fatal Fury
Aero Fighters 3
World Heroes 2 Jet
Sengoku 3
Samurai Shodown III
Ghost Pilot
Gururin
Stakes Winner
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
