@GFoyle Yeah, I think next time I play it's not going to be to score chase, I'm just going to try to get as far as I can and eventually beat it.. I chose not to unlock the appendix when I first started the game so that will be something to aim for!
@meppi64 Think it may be a battery fault with my PSP, I loved Ridge Racer on it and also the GTA games and Pursuit Force, imported a few great shmups too, Twin Bee, Salamander and Darius collections... A great system in it's day!
Yeah, it would be kinda sad if somebody who participates in one of these friendly, just for fun challenges would cheat. The only reward you winning can get from this to know that you did better than the rest, so you would be cheating yourself at the same time.
One annoying thing with those Psikyo games is that if you want to practice, play for fun with multiple credits, your score get's recorded (even though it shows it's from that run, it doesn't help if you best 1 credit scores get out of the top-10). Fortunately, you can get around that problem if you just make second user for your switch, which you use for such more casual (or practice) runs (including using easier difficulties if those don't have separate leaderboards in the game).

Be really careful with that as PSP batteries are starting to die overall.
Seen lots of photos the past couple of months of bulging batteries that nearly pop of the battery cover.
So if you notice a battery for a PSP starting to expand, take it out as soon as possible.
I just checked mine a week or 2 ago and they all seem to be fine for now, but it's best to keep an eye on it.

@GFoyle I went back to the game recently, cranked the lives up to 9 to try to beat it, which I kinda did! But only beat my challenge score by a couple hundred k!!!
@meppi64 You know what, I did notice ages ago, I couldn't close the case of my PSP... Thx bro, I'll have a look when I'm home...
@Daftbomb Just don't buy Sky Force Reloaded... Great game, terrible port to Switch😑
Yep, great game that Sky Force Reloaded. I’m playing it right now on iPhone and it feels and plays great! And it’s free! It’s little grindy for upgrading and it would be wise to buy IAP double stars for about 2$.
I just love playing shmups and bullet hell on touchscreen, it feels more natural to me if port is good.
OMG I soooooooo miss my Cave games I can’t play anymore because iOS 11 😢
@CroRock I guess we're just an honest group of players and just have to trust each other in the Psikyo challenges!
You should notice though, the last number of your score shows how many credits you used!
Didn’t noticed before.. that scoring system in Psikyo games are so broken hahaha. Lets say you and me somehow manage to get same score and I used 9 continues and you used 0 ... and wow - My score is higher then yours, therefore I’m a better player haha. What a joke.
Cave games have perfect scoring systems in all games. If someone port their games to Switch and if we could use touchscreen for playing that would be dream come true for me
@OorWullie Just watched your replay, great run you had! I'm feeling pretty dumb though as I thought to score big I needed to shoot the same colour, not the opposite 😂😂😂
@hybridseed technically you do score more by shooting same colour as absorbing all the revenge bullets (normal only ofc) will net you a reasonable bonus:
On the first bit of stage 1 (first 22 chains) I get about 385000 if just shooting everything as white but if I switch to match the first 8 chains I get roughly 400000. Obviously though the most important thing to scoring big is keeping a chain going

@hybridseed Cheers.I kind of messed up on that run though so was surprised to see my score beat my previous best. Neither of my stage scores on that run were personal bests but combined they took me past my previous best by 100k. I know 3 million is doable,I just need to put all my good sections together. In stage 1 I feel I'm capable of keeping my combo going until the boss if not for one section that always messes me up. Once I lose my chain it takes me out the zone and I struggle to get it back for the rest of the stage.
3 million will probably be my limit though. I haven't seen stage 3 yet but I've heard the difficulty ramps up a lot. I think that will be beyond me.
As for scoring ,like @daftbomb says, you don't need to shoot them with the opposite colour and will score more if you don't. I just play that way as it's easier due to enemies being quicker to take down and there being no revenge bullets fired which really mess you up. The main thing to concentrate on is taking down one colour of enemy in a chain of 3. It doesn't need to be 3 white,3 black either. It could be 9x white ,3x black ,6x white. If a 3 chain is broken though your combo is reset.
@OorWullie@Daftbomb Thanks both of you for your advice, I will keep going with it but something in Ikaruga just isn't clicking with me, like I read what @Daftbomb said and I came out of the first section with less than 30k!
@hybridseed nooooooo, don't give up. Its a bloody punnishing game for sure but you really will get better and better. trust me, dont worry so hard about "the big picture" just set yourself a small challenge to nail a particular phase and each day or so just try to cement those patterns you have mastered so far. Its a game that keeps rewarding your efforts if you arent too hard on yourself and aim for just a bit better.
Forget the other levels, theres so much scope in just level 1 for continual progress.

@hybridseed maybe watch my replay if you have a minute, the starting section is simple enough to chain if you know where to position yourself (forget polarity and stuck with white to begin)
Top right - shoot 6 white
Top left - shoot 6 black
This repeats ^
Then stop shooting immediately after the last black is destroyed and move over to the right where 24 tiny black ships swoop on together, if you start shooting as they cross the halfway mark you can get them all then wipe out all 24 white ships gently following them off to the right.
Positioning in advance makes so much difference. Probably sounds like rubbish, but the replay will explain it better maybe?
