Yeah, some of those I'm doing (or trying). The are some which currently I'm not even trying, too inconsistent and would require too much practice (I think) to pull of for this challenge. I'm doing those which gives me more baddies to kill, but the boss milking I'm avoiding with some of the bosses (like the middle red one with the flying balls... I know how it should be milked, but at the moment it's a risky, so easy to make mistake and just get killed). I'm getting relatively good scores from first 3 levels. Milking some of the bosses, getting max values from coins more consistently and not using any bombs would be the main things to improve... and all of those are hard ones (I guess extra bombs after 6th one would be 10k each but first I would need to learn kill all the those bosses consistently without any bombs).
As this challenge is so sort, I have preferred to focus on the easier parts first and getting better one levels 4+ as those I have most to improve.
I think you have very good score, it's not actually that much off from mine and you seem have great score with Miko as well, which is totally different from Ayin.
@GFoyle i have Hori RAP KAI myself, the full-Hayabusa one. It's one I won't recommend for SHMUPs: the Hayabusa lever has way too much "throw" and, if I recall correctly (I'm not using it that much since I'm always playing portable) it has a large engage distance. It's obviously targeted at fighting games (and I think it's quite good at it) where a square gate is normally preferred.

@GFoyle I'd like to give Miko some more love (if you know what I mean ): she has a HUGE advantage in air stage (score wise) and at the beginning of stage 4, where you can just get out of the 3 potheads sight, easily clear popcorn/Raiden (don't know how o call them) enemies with homing shots and then take care of the rest. It's the only toon that allows me to safely dispatch the red ninja girl, because the homing shots take care of those pesky pods that always manage to snipe me with Ayin's (especially in stage 4 where she spawns 4/6 of them).
On the other hand, charge shot is lackluster, and while bomb is not that bad it pales in comparison of Ayin's one...

Didn't cost much and I'm fairly sure those will improve the things I didn't like with the Hori stick a lot. @RetroGamerAndrew Should work with Hori RAP KAI, I think that has exactly same stick as the Switch Hori Hayabusa stick.
@RetroGamerAndrew Nice! If I manage to actually win this one, it's probably you who comes second so I would give the game choice to you as I won't have time to participate in the next one anyway (I hope that Dragon Blaze would not get chosen yet as I might like to participate in that)
I'm pretty sure I could improve still, I was quite close to do that already. Not sure I will try though, need to do other stuff as well.
Whoa! Nice scores!!! I don’t think I’ll be able to go back and add more points to my previous score as I’m just too busy, so it will have to stand in 4th, 5th, or wherever it ends up falling.
Not a very high score but managed to get the furthest into the game on that top score run. It asked me if I wanted to 'go through the front gate' or 'secret underground passage' or something? I chose the underground level. No idea what the recommended path here is in terms of higher scoring chances?
Then again, I'm so poor at timing the 2,000 token collection I suspect my score wouldn't have much altered in any case, ha! ha!
Now putting this game aside for awhile.

@Lroy Glad folk had fun with it. We got some new blood playing too which is ace. I'll post my final score later tonight after a few more goes but there are some fantastic scores here.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
But then again. I’m kinda new to these side scrolling shmup games. And Miko is really beginner friendly, so I can’t complain. It’s just that in the latter half of the game you really need those strong charge attacks it seems. I mean, ^ that looks insane.
Small improvements... Not sure I can squeeze in another run before the deadline, so looks like 572,502 is my final score. At least I finally made it to 1-6!
EDIT: Hold on! Just squeezed in a 643,602! Think that is it for me tonight, though. Love Miko... She chews up those popcorn enemies without me even trying.
