@Lroy No probs. I'm just glad I managed to slightly better the score I made earlier in the week, the one I pushed B on and didn't register. The score I did register was crap but I had trouble beating that until the last day. I had a screenshot of my highest score just to be safe but it's not the same, you want it to be on the leaderboard.

@Zkibu I added your high scores on Pulstar and Blazing Star to the open leaderboard, well played.

Hey guys! I'm back in town and ready to jump on board this challenge. I picked up Tengai last night, although I struggle to get too far past 400,000 so far. I also found it funny that the very first time I played I got past the first stage without getting hit, but have been unable to do it since. lol.

Think I'll happily set a very low bar on Tengai this weekend, once I work out how to transfer a screenshot to the forums. Suspect I might have to use my phone.

So far I've only used a single credit - I thought the score would reset to zero if I continured. How many credits are we allowing? 1 or 2?

I also just learned that you can level select on the title screen by pressing Y.

@Krull Good to see you here and thanks for joining us. Yep, unfortunately the score doesn't reset after a continue. We are just using the default settings of 2 continues, when selected in the options it's highlighted green.

Normal difficulty (Level 5)
3 lives, 2 continues
600k extend score

@GrailUK Is there a preferred level order then?

@GrailUK There's also a hidden character you can unlock on the character select screen. Go to random character , press up 3 times, down 3 times then up 7 times

He's pretty good and is strong like Katana but you need to get him up close to use his charged attack.

As much as I like Miko I think my favourite character is Junis, her charged attack is really good and lasts a long time.

@Lroy No idea mate, but it's useful to find out. I'm sure this game will have it's Paris.

From my own experience the Shrine is the best stage to start from, I've scored over 119k on that and missed a few coins on the way. I think River may be the 2nd best and I would go for Forest over Sea of Clouds but at this time I'm only guessing.

I just gave Tengai another run and got 517,000. That's a big improvement over my last score. But yikes, that new area I just reached is wild with bullets. It's going to take a minute getting familiar with that location.

Yeah, I was averaging right around 400k on each run before the last one. I imagine if people get past that section with the multiple bosses they'll be able to easily increase their score as well from 400k to 500k as well. Lots of work left to do with this one! lol.

So guys why do I get a range of 200 to 2000 points for the bonus “coins”?
Besides that is there anything else to know about the scoring system?

I’ve never thought that is a good way to learn a shmup. To enjoy it more, maybe (not for me), or to see all stages without credit feeding, but as a learning strategy I don’t think it’s effective.

Anyway to post screenshots for games without Online Leadeboards, you can just grab a photo of the Switch with your phone and upload it to imgur to post it here if that’s faster/easier (I do it this way myself). Otherwise you can also link your Twitter or FB to Switch and then embed the Tweet/FBpost in here
And just post the screen of your best score before the headline, during the week it’s ok to just write down the score in a post here, the important thing is to post a screen before the challenge ends. It’s important to even just post a few bad scores because 1) we’re doing it for fun and 2) it gives a sense of progression and scores to hunt/aim to for games where you can’t just check the online leaderboards (basically non-ACA Neo-Geo and non-Arcade Archives releases so far)
@OorWullie maybe it’d be best to post this on the thread’s OP/FAQ? I see people constantly asking how to do screens and such.

Btw I had a bug twice using Tengai where his auto-shoot would flicker and have no range at all, I had to let go of the shooting button and hold it again to start shooting normally again... or at least I think it’s a bug and not a punishing feature, lol

@DashKappei See how the coins spin as they fall? If you collect it full face on ( o ) then you get 2000pts. If you collect it on it's edge ( I ) you get like 200. Aaaand all the points in between

Just made my highest score, nothing special but it's progress. That 4th bad guy takes a lot more damage to take down that I thought he would, with Junis I used 4 specials, 2 Mongoose fire, tons of bullets and 2 lives lost. I reckon her Mongoose attack is the weakest despite being the longest. Just really noticed it on that run.

This is great! Been chopping and changing with all the characters and have come to the conclusion that Miko has the best assets. Ahem. Small hit box, good manoeuvrability and homing bullets - the only downside is the limited range and slow release of her smart bomb, but it's very effective once it lands.

Anyway, best so far is 435,402 (level 1-5) on my second run with Miko. Second on my high score chart is Katana with 273,702.

I won't bother posting a pic till I set something I'm happy with. Bullets really start to fill the screen come level 1-5, don't they?
