Topic: Anyone Else Peeved About NSO Expansion pack (MK8 DELUXE)

So like many of my friends I traded MK8 deluxe later last year just to hear last direct that there is going to be DLC (which I basically already have due to NSO.) So instead of buying a regular copy of MK8 I instead stayed up all night trying to find a cheaper copy, to my luck I found a $15 cartridge. I was just wondering if anyone else is peeved off by this or is attempting to find a cheaper copy?

I'd imagine most folks kept their copies of MK8. Nintendo games as a whole are rarely worth trading in or selling.

Retro gaming is too damn expensive.

@Bronski Skill issue.

Don't take that personally btw, I'm just messing with you. On the topic, that sucks for you, I understand that, but to be fair, before making a decision like that, maybe wait to see if a sequel/DLC is actually confirmed beforehand? For example, I could understand if you'd want to sell a copy of Splatoon 2 since Splatoon 3 is announced and coming out soon(tm). Maybe you can see this as a lesson to not be so hasty? I know that sounds pompous but I'm hoping it doesn't come across that way.

@Fizza I mean I get your point but its an 8 or something year old game which previously has had dlc. But I do get that point

@Bronski Man that sucks, and I’m sorry to hear that.

But to be fair, it’s not nintendos fault for you selling your copy, Should have at least kept it till they said they were making 9. I’m not trying to be rude, so I’m sorry if it feels that way.

I'm peeved about it. One of the appealing things about the Switch release was that the DLC from the Wii U release was all on the cart.

Now I have two incomplete "physical" copies of Mario Kart 8, and it's likely that future updates are going to gobble up a substantial amount of storage even for those who have no intention of purchasing the DLC.

I hope that there will be a complete physical release later on or possibly a port on the Switch's successor, but time will tell. The DLC isn't scheduled to be completed until nearly 2 years from now.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

I miss the days of old, when games were polished and complete at launch.

No updates.
No massive day 1 patches that were bigger than the size of the game itself.
No DLC or microtransactions to bleed us dry.

It was just you and the game you bought. Good times.

Retro gaming is too damn expensive.

Bronski

@Silly_G I am so sorry for you, nintendo like do tend to surprise us with unwanted DLC

Bronski

@SnackPop but when they didn’t have dlc they would just make us buy the whole thing over again if they updated it.

Updates help with bugs, so if a game had them, or even a game breaking one, we would have to buy the game over again.

I know devs get a little more lazy because of this, but in my opinion, updates were a big a big game changer.

@SnackPop
Game expansions have existed forever and I struggle to see how they're a bad thing. Especially when this substantial. It's just that back in the day they used to be a PC only thing or a forced repurchase of the entire game again

There are criticisms you can throw at the way things happen now for sure. But I'll take DLC of this scale over the old model any day

As for the thread itself? If you liked the game why sell it? If you were done with it and now are not? Buy it again. I don't see how this is a problem

So someone feels forced to buy Mario Kart as they have access to the free DLC and found a copy incredibly cheap. Am I missing something or is this thread really as silly as it seems?

The only thing I find slightly irrgegular is the length of time it has taken for dlc. I think it perfectly reasonable to get rid of a game after 5 years and I can see how this would annoy folk wanting to jump back in. But, Nintendo games hold their value. It's all well and good moaning at the price of another copy of the game, but you would have gotten a decent price for trading / selling your other one. Swings and roundabouts. Personally, I don't get rid of Nintendo games. They tend to age much better than most games on the market.

I never sell or trade games away, so I'm still have it and I was planning to buy NSO Family Plan + Expansion, because I and my little brother owns NS. Plus I plan talk in my first brother to buy NS OLED or V2 as well, so. Another plus my little brother owns Digital AC:NH, so he will end up getting DLC from my pocket for it. Another plus timing is good for 1st wave, because I was already planning to buy what I said in first sentence next month and I get my monthly pay around 10-13th day of each month (5-8 days before 1st wave), plus my game copy is Physical.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has a smallish file size. I'm kind of hoping Nintendo eventually release a "deluxier" physical copy with all the new tracks on the cartridge. Like how they did for BotW and Splatoon 2 in Japan.

I'm happy that we are getting more Tracks. I enjoy playing Online still. I'm in no rush for Mario Kart 9 at all.
