Topic: Any way to participate in Japan exclusive splatfests?

I heard there’s an upcoming splatfest in Japan and I’d like to participate but my account is an American one. I don’t want to make another account and I have no interest in hacking my switch. Is there any way I can still participate? I also want the process to be easily reversible so I can go back to being in the American region when the splatfest is over. Any ideas on how I can do this?

The easiest way would be making a Japanese account.

@GyroZeppeli Thanks for the feedback but I don’t want to pay for the online service again plus then I’d lose all my gear I have on the US account. Any other ways?

@IsaacDavis You could change the region on your main account and change it back when needed.

I don't think you need a Japanese account at all; just a Japanese copy of the game as it is separate to the international versions of the game (and will have separate save data and require separate software updates). That I am sure of. If you wish to download the game, then yes, you will need a Japanese account to make such a purchase.

Either way, you must have a Japanese copy of the game in order to participate. I doubt that the servers will pay attention to where your NSO subscription originated from, nor is it likely that you will need a Japanese account at all, as you do not need a region-specific account to play physical releases from other countries, or to download software updates for such games.

Frankly, the measures (and potential risks) required aren't worth it.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

I'm fairly sure you'll need a Japanese version of the game, not just a Japan region account.

This is correct. Though they share all the same features, you do need the Japanese version of the the game to play the Japanese exclusive splatfests. And the Japanese version of the game only supports Japanese, unlike the international version which supports several languages.

I’m pretty sure I can confirm. I have the European version of the game, but am playing in Japan with the region set appropriately. The matchmaking means I get grouped with predominantly Japanese players, but the Splatfests are still based on my region.

If you really want to compete over your favourite diameter of Pocky, you’ll unfortunately have to splash out on a Japanese copy of the game.
