Topic: Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp

Let's talk about, in my opinion, the single best announcement of E3 2021!

Starting with the elephant in the room, the art style. I, too, would prefer they'd stuck with sprite based graphics. But I feel like sprites in game design are going the way of 2D classic animation has gone in Hollywood. For some reason, major studios just don't want to do that anymore. It's annoying, but it just seems to be what's going on.

However, if this game is what it claims to be, a full remake of Advance Wars 1+2 (which had a combo pack release in Japan back in the day that the west never got) with the campaigns, War Room mode and map editor, and the same classic mechanics, then I am beyond thrilled. It's been 13 years since we've had a release of anything even vaguely new in this series. We did get the VC releases on Wii U, but that's it.

In my opinion, Nintendo is testing the water with this release. If it goes well, then we'll probably see a true new entry in the series. I don't normally like saying this kind of thing, but if you're a fan of the series and want that new game, please give this remake a chance.

I played these games to death back in the day. They were my favorite titles on GBA alongside Fire Emblem and Pokemon. Advance Wars was my first GBA game actually. But it's been years since I've replayed them. I'm absolutely getting them on Switch.

The only thing about this announcement that worries me just a little is one line in the trailer. The said "play the campaigns of Advance Wars 1 and 2" The campaigns. I don't think they'd do this, but there's a little voice in the back of my head saying "What about War Room? (the storyless challenge missions) what about map editor and vs?" If those features are, for some absurd reason, not in these remakes, that will be a deal killer for me.

The art style isn't my fave, but I still kinda like it. But if it's missing major chunks of content(which I don't think is the case but that one comment worries me) then that could kill this...
