Topic: 3 joy-con + 1 pro vs. 4 joy-cons

I currently have 3 joy- cons (1 set + 1R) and I am debating whether to buy last left joy-con or a pro controller.

For frequent single and 2-player AND occasional 4 player use, would you rather have 3 joy cons and a pro controller OR 4 joy cons (2 sets)?

Games to be played: super mario odyssey, zelda, mario kart, snipperclips and smash bros (when it comes out)

I’d get the Pro. You won’t regret it. I mainly use that when I play docked.

Lol I have 3 Pro-Controllers and 4 complete sets of Joy-Con. Just for variety's sake. I change up my Joy-cons for color. lol

But seriously, if you don't have at least 1 pro - get one. It's the best controller on the market right now. Excellent build quality, battery life, NFC support, motion control, responsiveness etc. Only downside is the D-pad isn't - according to some people - always the best. Though on my 3 I have had no issues I have read that others have.

Seconded. I even try to use it when bringing the Switch out as much as possible.

Yes, listen to the author of the thread titled "They should have removed buttons from the controller" now advocating the advantages of the Pro Controller over an extra JoyCon.......................

If you're short on cash, I would highly recommend additional Joy-Con sets over Pro Controllers. Pro Controllers are limited to a single player's use only and cost about the same. With Joy-Con, you're able to use them as a single controller or as two controllers, depending on the circumstances.

Some games also support more than 4 players (8 being the maximum) so it might be worth your while to get some additional Joy-Con instead. While 6-8 player games are in the distinct minority, I would expect Smash Switch to support 8 players like it did on Wii U.

If you have the money, you must go for the PRO. This controller is confortable as hell.

Thinking about the games you have listed:
-SMO: multiplayer is boring, I understand you'll be playing mostly single player. If you ever play docked or tabletop => PRO controller is the best experience you can get.
-Zelda BOTW: Does not have multiplayer. If you ever play docked or tabletop => PRO controller is the best experience you can get.
-Sniperclips: I'm not sure if the PRO controller is supported, I think it was not on launch.
-Mario Kart: bigger buttons make in the PRO controller make it a much more confortable controller.
-Smash: same as MK

Regardless a April fools or not. I put .02 here.

Pro is the best to get but there are times when using Joy-Con separately make interaction in the game more immersive. My setup is 4 Pro controllers and 2 Joy-Con including the one that came with the NS OEM plus the charging Joy-Con. This is a must if you plan on having a second Joy-Con if the other Joy-Con is attached to the NS. Some games can played with Pro or Joy-Con/Charger or separate Joy-Cons in each hand like Arms or 1-2-3 Switch this make is more fun and immersive. So it boils down to the games your playing and what setup you like to go with but I for one would say try both setup to see what fun you can get out of it. Yes it does cost to do a setup like mine but you get to have more fun doing so.

1. 2- Standard Pro controllers
2. 1-Splatoon Pro controller(can't be found or had anymore new) unless you can find them
3. 1-Xeno2 Pro controller(can't be found or had anymore new) unless you can find them
4. Another Joy-controller and 2 Joy-Con charger should I remove the Joy-Con from the switch to game solo

So there you have it alot of money spent but well worth for my setup.
