Hi all, please help! I am a new Switch owner, finally!
I discovered after one day that two people cannot play Animal Crossing - annoying.
I then purchased another switch which came with another copy of AC - perfect or so I thought....
Essentially after reading alot, I now know this alone looks to be fine, we can both play our own island on the individual switch. (crossed fingers).
I linked my profile from the original switch to switch number two, essentially creating one for me and one for my partner. However, I have now learned that the original switch is my primary console and now i don't know what to do. If i move the primary console to my new switch the the user cannot play my downloaded games on the original switch including Animal Crossing I assume?
So my questions are this?
If I make my new switch my primary can the other user download a copy of AC for themselves, I don't see why that wouldn't work? Then I have to convince them to start again
Is there a better way of doing this, does anyone have any ideas, I am so confused now
@Cheesywotsit79 You have to set the other as a Primary console. And you'll have to buy a copy of Animal Crossing for that Switch. The Switch ecosystem is designed for one digital game per console.
And yes, they will have to start a new Animal Crossing New Horizon game. New Horizons does not support game progress transfers to another console. Which is definitely disappointing. Nintendo might make an update in the future to allow game progress to be transferred to another console, but don't hold your breath. No date has been announced.
"If I purchase a second system, can I transfer the save file (island data) to a different console?
Animal Crossing: New Horizons does not support the ability to transfer your save file from one Nintendo Switch system to another."
And, to be thorough, regarding physical game cards, you can share that game, but it can only be played when inserted into the console. So only one console can play it at a time. (game saves are not stored on game card). I know that doesn't help your Animal Crossing situation, but I'd address physical games, too.
I did suspect that the best thing to do would be set up my new one as primary and then my partner can have theirs as primary and we just run independently.
@WoomyNNYes My one final question sorry I did mean to add this in my post...
Once I delete the profile off the original switch the new digital code I have for AC will work on the original switch for my partner wont it?
@Cheesywotsit79. That may not work. A digital game is tied to the eshop account/owner that purchased it in eshop. But you've got a redeem code? I'm pretty sure the digital game is forever be tied to the account/user/email-address that first redeemed it.
Your welcome to ask questions Even though the Nintendo support site is a fairly decent resource, I know it's not always easy to find the answers for console/account setup questions.
@WoomyNNYes
Thanks again. The switch DL code worked fine and as I kept my partner on the console that theyโd started on it retained the saved data despite DLโing a new game copy.
@BruceCM Guess I'm fuzzy on the detail. I thought Cheesywotsit79 wanted to give their code to another user. Can you delete your game, and give the DL code to another user for them to download the game?
For whatever reason, he seemed to have brought a code for the game to give his partner, @WoomyNNYes .... Dunno why that way, particularly but it hardly matters
@BruceCM
Iโll clarify I bought my own switch ... my partner then took over AC and loved it. So I got another switch for me to solely use ... that one came with a free copy of AC. ๐๐ฝ
