@OorWullie I just set my Wii U up again recently. It felt silly to have 3 HDMI ports on my TV and three HD systems and not take advantage of it. There are also plenty of games from virtual console in Wii and Wii U mode that are not on Switch. Even more so now that I've decided to drop Switch online down to the regular tier: I already have a ton of N64 and Mega Drive games playable on other systems (including my original consoles) and a lot of GBA games on Wii U.

Furthermore, my family play together more on Wii Sports Resort and Wii Party than anything on Switch. I've also introduced them to Wii Party U and Nintendoland in the last week. My wife (who is not a big gamer at all) was up until the early hours playing through all the mini games on Wii Party U with me!

Switch 2 almost certainly won't be fully compatible with Labo, so that's one thing that will only be offered by the original Switch. Problem is you can't really buy Labo new any more, and the half the fun is gone if you buy it secondhand (not to mention that I wouldn't trust it to be in good condition). I only have the basic VR kit myself, but hey, that's reason enough to keep my Switch.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

As we are gearing up for the announcement of the Switch’s successor a funny thought crossed my mind: what will happen to the original Switch when its successor lands?

For the sake of longevity, I still hold out hope that Nintendo will release a non-portable variant of the original Switch. One that'll plug into a wall socket and not run on an internal battery. Nothing lasts forever. Eventually service and repair provided by Nintendo themselves for the original Switch will end, and I would like to have a plug-in-Switch as a backup option.

Even with the Switch 2 being almost assuredly "Switch 1, but better", with 100% backwards compatibility, I still would want a backup non-battery powered option.

@NintendoDad Even with backwards capability on Switch 2, a Switch Mini would be nice to have. Just a little box, that's easy to store and keeps your full Switch library safe for many years.

+1

And IMHO it could bring additional players into NSO.

It would be a sorta implementation of Market Skimming. Either lower the price of a product, or bring in a less expensive variation and additional people could / would buy into the product.

Of course, if a good percentage of Switch owners sell their OG Switch when they get a Switch 2, this alone could have the same effect of bringing in more players into the NSO.

If a good percentage of that audience signs up for NSO or buy games, this could be a good Sales Lift to those additional units.

I tragically sold my GameCube with around 30 games, back in 2009. I still have my Wii and Wii U though. But they're not set up. I haven't played any other consoles since the Switch released. It's served me well for my retro needs. I modded my Wii years ago, because I like playing shmups and arcade games but the Switch has been great for those.

RE: Game Cube . . .

The Game Cube was our first console. I still have it and a bunch of games. I have it plugged in in my workshop hooked up to a small tube TV just to try to preserve the internal battery. I bought an extra copy of Namco 50th Ann. and leave it in the machine so when I fire it up I can start up a game of Galaga.

All our Nintendo Consoles are hooked up somewhere. LOL. Our GC, 4 Wii's and our Wii U. Our DS's don't get used too often now-a-days, but I keep one set-up for when I travel. But I have been using our 2DS to try to finally finish OOT. LOL. And I have MM sitting and waiting to play next. I already finish Samus Returns on it.

I guess that is also another reason I haven't bought another OG Switch. With all these consoles at my finger tips, with all sorts of unfinished games . . . it's not like I have a lack of stuff to do. LOL.

Take care and happy gaming!

Switch OLED will still be in supply until they finish making all OLED that they can. At the same time they are going into Switch 2 production if they haven't started already. They will most likely finish production of Switch OLED v2 and when that is done they will switch over to Switch 2 and most likely end production for Switch v2 and put that into the Nintendo Museum of game consoles.

It’s likely that sometime after the release of Switch 2, the original Switch and Switch OLED will be discontinued, leaving the Switch Lite as the last model standing

Kinda like when the 2DS and New 3DS XL were discontinued and left the New 2DS XL as the last standing model of the 3DS line

@OorWullie In March I discovered an issue with my launch day Switch with the back plate warping. It's been kept in the dock 99% of the time since 2017 and I didn't notice the issue so I don't know when it started. I was able to send the console into Nintendo for a free repair. I'd recommend getting it fixed as it could be a fire hazard due to the battery.

I think the issue relates to gases expanding causing the warping that could lead to a battery leak / fire. IIRC, when sending it in I had to verify the amount of warping, if it was a certain amount then special shipping would have been needed to limit chance of a fire spreading.

Separately, I was able to setup a repair for my Joy-Cons to "fix" joy-con drift. Also for free. I don't know how they would treat a cracked screen but wouldn't hurt to check with Nintendo support.

At launch I sent in my Pro Controller for repair because I thought the D-Pad was broken, got a replacement, same issue, sent it in again, same issue. Kept the third one as I figured it was just a crappy D-Pad, which it is. Due to the D-Pad I switched to the Joy-Cons (which I dislike immensely) to play Tetris 99 but then I started getting drift. So, yeah, not the best quality control.

With Switch 2, I'm hoping we can still play games on Switch 1 and have save data update on the Switch 2 system. I wouldn't mind having Switch 1 setting to use with my bedroom TV and Switch 2 in my living room.

I don’t know which one is the right topic. Does Switch 2 have YouTube?

Most likely, but this is not the topic to discuss it in. I suggest making a separate topic.

I'm a switch lite user and I love it as sort of an gba successor. I think a lot of users and children use it the same way and aren't going to make the shift to the more expensive model with only a few new games as of now. I feel like indies will continue to support switch 1 for a few years, but nintendo will do what sony did and do switch1/2 support for the first year then just switch to the new console exclusively. I've got a back catalog of games and there's so many games on the console that I don't think I'll get rid of it.

@Jam777 Nintendo literally said the Switch 2 would be the successor to the Switch. Even they know they can’t make every game be cross-gen or it will be another PS4/PS5 and Xbox One/Series X and S situation.

I do wonder if some of the business with the tariffs and the impact that will have on sales will necessitate Nintendo supporting the Switch a while longer; never mind any sort of stock or parts shortage, a lot of people are going to be affected by it and will be tightening belts. The Switch and its software may be a lot more wallet friendly for quite a while yet, compared to the ‘luxury’ price of Switch 2 software.
