Don't buy this game on the switch, get it on PC if you want. This game is not optimized for the system. There's no quality of life controls at all. It's ported to operate like a mouse but you have to use the joystick to control the mouse reticule.

There's also a lot of bugs and the discord seems to think the game will not get patched for a while.

They didn't do mouse controls with the switch 2 mouse, they didn't allow you to cycle through rooms, planets or target with a dpad or such. So you will spend most of your time moving a crap cursor to a tiny target.

I regret not getting this on the PC. It's a decent game with a lot of rough edges that is perfect for a portable system, but fails to go the extra mile for zany times, and also fails to be a stable game or use the mouse mode.

Update: I do think this game needed better controls but I am dealing with it.

However my further thoughts are it's a great Star Trek game if they address the issues and boy does this game have issues. The quality of life in this game is like a 25, and sometimes 35 year old game.

It's really hard, even on the easiest difficulty it's hard. They don't allow save scumming at all, which is a good thing for this type of game, but it's also bad because your seed doesn't change if you lose and all you can do is research and build your ship up for longer. However you have a ticking clock in near the end of each section of the game. If you're not doing well, it compounds fast and you will get further and further behind and you will lose. That's not a problem for me. But what is a problem is that you have no ability to save at all, even though the seed doesn't change. It has a very inconsistent auto save that often will soft lock you by not allowing you to go back except to the beginning of the chapter. Meaning you lose HOURS of time.

I was at the very end of a chapter and I had a hard fight and I won and I was very happy. But I was left with no deflector shield and 48 hull points in a system that damages me 15 per turn and it takes 4 turns to repair the deflector... And you take 15 damage for using warp. And you can't drop out of warp out of a system...

So I was soft locked. So my only option is to restart the entire game, or restart the chapter. And each chapter seems longer than the last.

There's other major issues but I don't want to spoil the game.

It also feels very ***** to know what choices worked on the show and then it doesn't work for you because you rolled poorly.

I guess roguelike and pre established story doesn't mesh well.

The game play is more addictive than I thought. I played like 15 hours straight and lost a lot.

I also didn't like how you can screw up and they didn't make a difference story for this screw up. We just replace a character with a look alike and go with it. But you lose a hero character. So you are talking to not Nelix because they couldn't be bothered to change more of the story.

I hope they keep working on this game because honestly, this could be a brand new genre. I could see them doing this with all the IP. Roguelike existing IP could be like the telltale story game of the current era. But to get there they need to sell the game and also improve what they have here.if they put in 1/1000th the effort in improving the game as no man's sky, this game would be very good.

But right now it's not clear where you need to go, how to unlock secret options, and the issues are there.

Sounds like a 30-year-old game, which is fitting as it's based on a 30-year-old show. Mileage will likely vary, but it sounds like it's up my alley at least!

Don't forget who your friends are.
...I'm one of them, right? .u.

@SeafTheFissh It's definitely engaging for Star Trek fans. I didn't hate the game but it feels like an unfinished product that didn't do a good job of making your decisions clear. I finished the game while playing pretty close to the way the show went and I didn't see some of the most memorable episodes play out, and the end of the game wasn't the same as the classic episode Endgame and I really don't understand why.

There's almost no one online talking about different endings and such.

I got so mad when several characters died and I couldn't fix it with reloading. I wanted to do at least one run close to the show.

Do you know how to do spoiler protection typing in this forum? There's one absolutely epic flaw in this game that made me furious but I don't want to spoil it for anyone but I do want to talk about it with someone!

@Misima

[spoiler]the text you want to hide[/ spoiler]

Just make sure to close the gap between the /spoiler and you are good to go.

I'm liking this game, one thing i'm having trouble with though is the size of the text while playing in table top or handheld mode. It's almost impossible to read, at least for me, and there is no way to make the size any bigger. So I guess i'll have to play this one docked on the big tv and hope it will work better that way.

I was blown away by how if you let Tuvik live, and if you fail to turn human Torres back into half Klingon, those three characters are now no longer available in any text choices for the rest of the game. Which makes no sense because these characters had all the same memories and training. Like imagine if your back haired dog suddenly turned blonde and that prevents them from not only not remembering any of the tricks you taught them, but you couldn't even tell them to fetch anymore because they don't qualify as your dog anymore, but just a dog that lives in your house.

Strained metaphor but that was maddening.

I also don't understand why the end of the game was so radically different for me than the show. My Admiral Janeway lived the awakened Borg took over the trans warp conduit instead of destroying it and became allies of the federation.

They made the best ending in all of sci fi TV show history (not including Twilight Zone) and made it dull.

I mean. I have played the game a lot. So it's not terrible.

The game is a huge buggy mess.

They put out an update with version 1.4 several days ago, back on Feb 27th. But I can not find any info on when that update will be available on Switch. It's supposed to address a lot of the issues people have had since launch, as well as includes the ability to create a manual save as well as significant balance changes to Adventure mode. To make it more forgiving for people who just want to experience the story. Anyone else been able to find info on this update for the Switch?

@BigVinnie They just vaguely say, it will be soonish. Oh well.

Is this game already dead on the vine?

It feels like no one is talking about this game. I confirmed they sold 100k, but I don't see any evidence of selling beyond it and i think they might be giving up on the game already.
