I watched Digital Foundry review of Switch 2, it was even partly sponsored by Nintendo because they said they received stuff from Nintendo. There was literally nothing wrong with this review, it was made by people who actually know what they are talking about instead just repeating informations from official advertisments like other youtube reviewers. They even admited that lots of flaws can be fixed by firmware update which IMO giving too much benefit as we know how bad Nintnedo is at upgrades (we are still waiting to give us ability to change wallpaper on switch).
What they said is simple, screen is way worse than modern LCDs like lets say Rog Ally. They should have sourced better one or spend time on implementing over-drive. If you know anything about LCDs for gaming than you know that every gaming monitor LCD has over-drive and Nintendo seems to lack it.
This could be actually much more negative if they kept digging into screen being not calibrated and oversaturated, but they are aware that people just like fake colors so they skipped it.
Yet all comments from Nintendo community that I see are like: "They are too old for gaming anyways", "They dont know *****", "Digital foundry is cancer", "Digital Foundry hates Nintendo", "Digital Foundry is toxic".
You people need to WAKE UP because YOU are the one toxic here and you are destroying this community preventing normal sane from joining.
For me, the whole game key card thing has made a lot of the NL comment sections unreadable. Any time there's any article that's even tangentially related to any game that's released as a game key card, half of the comments are merely people complaning how horrible these new cards are instead of discussing the actual game. It used to be fun to read the comments section of a game review here, but that's not the case anymore with any of these games.
If you try to look at it objectively, game key cards have the obvious downsides, but they have some good qualities too: you can resell them and share with them friends/family (something you can't do with purely digital games), plus they make it easier for indie publishers (who might not afford the production costs of a proper Switch 2 cartridge) to have a physical product on the shelf. But just looking at all the comments on this site, you'd think game key cards are the Antichrist which has ruined the Switch 2 forever or something.
@Polvasti And it is a bad thing that people complain about something they do not like every time it is mentioned?
And no, they are not ruining the Switch 2 in any way, but they are ruining the publisher's reputation, or at least a little.
And people cling on the whole resale thing because there is nothing else in favor of game key-cards.
The whole publishers are poor, and they need cheap shelf presence is not a good thing because if you can't afford to make a normal physical edition then don't do one at all. Here Nintendo is a part guilty as well for giving a bad option.
Indie publishers could go the Super Rare Games route as well. There are options out there. Just don't be cheap and people will love you.
As for the whole Switch 2 screen is bad, Digital Foundry is terrible for hating on the Switch 2 is pure nonsense.
But ultimately people should be allowed to complain or have bad takes all they want. The internet is NOT a safe space and happy thoughts
Honestly I think all opinions are valid from those who are completely Nintendo loyal to those that just want to have something to moan about. I like to think of myself in the middle but admit I have no loyalty to Nintendo I just like their games really but enjoy discussing the hardware. What does annoy me is when people can't accept other people's opinions and get abusive to the person rather than focusing on why their opinion is wrong. That seems childish and lowers the tone of the forum I think. Also those who are lets say are Sony or Microsoft fans and just here to criticise everything and probably don't own Nintendo consoles. However some people are here I guess because they don't own Nintendo hardware but maybe they are interested in buying it. That is likely Switch 2 but Nintendo are still expecting to sell huge amounts of original Switches too. It's by no means a dead platform yet.
I'm mainly a PC gamer but also own Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft consoles although I haven't got a Xbox Series or PS5 console and I'm playing the waiting game for Switch 2 to get a good deal either new or secondhand.
It’s the internet, people are deadly serious about the products they like. They will go ballistic on anything that is decided as threatening to their pop culture
@Polvasti And it is a bad thing that people complain about something they do not like every time it is mentioned?
It gets very tiring, yeah. If I'm reading, say, a comment section of a game review, I'd much rather read what people think about the actual game than be forced to read the same complaints by the same people again and again about one particular delivery method for it, which has nothing to do with the game itself.
I'm not saying there shouldn't be a serious discussion on game key cards, but the way these complaints have taken over the comment sections of so many Switch 2 articles is overwhelming, especially for people like me who can see the positive aspects of game key cards as well, like being able to share them with my spouse without having to buy two digital copies of the same game.
People have a tendency to fly off the rails without pausing to think. Or actually considering the content being discussed or the context it exists in. But it goes both ways
Case and point this thread which effectively amounts to a fly-by whine directed at a community when OP only created their account today
Edit: I would also note that, as much as I like the coverage from DF, they had been fairly quick to shoot down the Switch 2 rumour and speculation mill. And in most cases incorrectly pessimisticly. They dismissed 4K DLSS, they dismissed VRR, they dismissed HDR, they dismissed 120Hz. They repeatedly mocked the idea of a "DLSS lite" model. They said repeatedly that Switch 2 would not be doing 4K. But all of these things have come to pass
So yeah, I like Digital Foundry. But like most non-Nintendo focused outlets they seem to have a glaring blind spot when it comes to Nintendo. People like to talk crap about Nintendo. Most of the time they overreach or jump to negative conclusions a bit too prematurely. Not saying they're doing it with this discussion on the screen, I haven't watched their review, but it is a thing that tends to happen with Nintendo coverage
What what did I do no- oh you meant the fandom in general
Edit: Skimming the article in question, I see a very normal amount of people both agreeing and disagreeing with DF.
As for OP being a new account, I have noticed a recent influx of new accounts that seem to have joined mainly to complain about one thing or two. Guess it’s the effect of having a new console out.
As a side note, I haven't had any issues with my screen. I did skim some of the commentary around this review and noticed some people were talking about duplicate frames in 120Hz mode. Maybe there's a firmware issue somewhere? The screen does support VRR so it shouldn't ever be doing that
