Talking about maps, I know it would pretty significantly change the way it plays, but I think S3’s spawn system could be super interesting on Triggerfish. Choosing whether you land in the lower area or behind the gate on the right while it’s still raised could be an interesting form of commitment, and it would make choosing where you land more interesting than “I want to be kind of to the left.” Eeltail Alley even has a platform on the left than you can only land on from spawn - which is pretty useless, admittedly - but it does get me thinking of interesting possibilities with the S3 spawn system.
You can’t control the way others talk to you, but you can control the way you talk to others.
I think retro stages picks will function a bit like what Mario Kart did with 8's retro tracks on Wii U. Namely that the launch retro stage lineup will only feature stages that weren't retro stages in past entries and then the updates branch out to include some Splatoon 1 stages that were already retro stages. For example:
Launch retro stages
Splatoon 1 - Urchin Underpass, Saltspray Rig
Splatoon 2 - Starfish Mainstage, Shellendorf Institute
I honestly just really want male Idols, like other than gameplay and storymode that's the only thing I want. Give me a squid/octoling boy band. They don't even need lore (Though that's a huge plus) Let them just be dummies who hang out and like to have fun
@Dev1024
Having a boy band was something I was hoping for Splatoon 3. And we got Big Man. And I thought, ok that's the closest we will get I guess.. But maybe if I hope even harder this time we get one!
I have seen a TON of debate about "BoY bAnD fOr S4?!" and... I don't know how I feel. Don't get me wrong, if we get a male idol I will be overjoyed, but at the same time, given how female-centric Splatoon is and always has been, I think doing an all-male group could be detrimental. I have a feeling a non-humanoid male like Big Man is the closest we will get.
@Budda I don't think it would kill sales, but I do think it would have enough of an effect that the devs would have to consider it. I mean the fand I m practically exploded because of Big Man being male and he isn't even humanoid lol! (Tho everyone was also going crazy because in foreign versions Shiver was maybe possibly NB but that was just people being extra IMO so I don't count that.)
@Budda
Adding one humanoid male gets people excited.
Adding 2 makes it so the men have the majority it S4 taking away feminine energy
Adding 3 will make people go feral and there will be a lot of hype but the men will take over the public’s eye and people will forget about the absolute queens Pearl and Marina are.
Well according to inkipedia "The newscaster idols' heavy involvement in Splatfest announcements and live performances is meant to reflect real-life Japanese festival traditions, wherein female priestesses lead the celebrations."
So that's why I think most idols are female, if they try to stay on theme of Japanese festivals I don't think we will have a boy band. I'm not against the idea of a boy band but not really for it either. I'll still be happy with whatever they choose.
although my pfp is no longer a potato I am and will forever be potato-man!!!!
In 3 they heavily used the theme of the number 3. Three idols, Tri-Colour, 3 King Salmonids, several items priced only with 3, Salmon Run items costing 333 gold scales... etc.
If they theme the next game similar 4 idols maybe? 50/50 at least? The thing is, I really want to see a male Inkling or Octoling that looks unique. I kinda feel left out. Only generic player avatars? =/
@Budda I understand your point and I want a male idol as well, but I just want it to be executed in a way that ensures female idols remain at the forefront of the series
@Budda as a guy, I can totally agree as far as not having a ton of representation... but then again we have Cuttlefish, Ocatavio, Mr Grizz and Orser/Smollusk soooooo I don't mind. That said: 3 girls and 1 guy in a 4-member band would be cool! And then Fests could be 2 sided, and just have 2 idols per team! They could perform together, giving a bunch of different combinations!!
@CaleBoi25 That’s an interesting idea. It could be cool for them to expand on the initial idea of having the leading team always be the defenders in tri colour and have the top two teams play together with their idols
And the bottom two teams could play together with their idols.
@Rykdrew I could see a story mode with more emphasis on the [insert humanoid opponent here], but I doubt it will be the main draw. Splitscreen mode(s) could be fun.
@CaleBoi25 Splatoon should try to have a local multiplayer for sure, I understand why they are hesitant but it could be fun to have two perspectives from the same team. However it really doesn’t work because you’d be at a disadvantage because each player would have half the visibility as normal players and unseen bombs for example could be extremely frustrating.
@Dev1024 tableturf and squid jump app? Please Nintendo!
Also I think I might be the only one who kinda misses letting out my inner Marina playing DJ waiting for matches is S2
Though I’m not sure what the chances of that could be based on Deep Cut getting shafted and also getting nothing in Grand Festival. With this, it’s possible Nintendo just abandons Deep Cut and gives Squid Sisters and Off the Hook the spotlight in some way, like both getting the DLC, although I don’t know the odds of that happening.
I’m more of an Off the Hook fan, but I don’t want this to be the end of Deep Cut. They deserve better. If anything, I could also be down for a Deep Cut RPG spinoff game.
