@Dhaladog Like HomeBrew. That will brick your system and get Nintendo account banned.

As someone who lives in Europe and had to contact Nintendo Europe couple times with real problems (like blocked account, not being able to buy anything etc). I can tell you that I have never in my 35 years of life contacted least customer friendly company than Nintendo Europe.

Literally my last communication from Nintendo Customer Support in Germany was "please dont open new support tickets, you already asked your question in one ticket, we cant do anything for you".

Nintendo have no idea about consumer rights, they basically think they are the king of the hill and they can do anything they want, because they ride on massive amount nostalgia driven fanboys.

I learned that with Nintendo you just buy only physical games and hope for best, but now with Nintendo telling us that they are able to brick console, I am not buying Switch 2 untill they change that.

And as bonus i can tell you that in Poland barely anyone is buying Switch 2. I live in big city with around 5 electronics stores close to me and they are all FULL of Switch 2's, like literally walls of Switch 2's. And its not that its expensive, its not, people are just not interested. Nintendo being seen here as generally anticosumer toy company plays a big role.

And i will never understand how people in USA are always first willing to give up their consumer rights for no good reason.

Never mod a system that is current and updated regularly and you'll be fine. Also you better know what you're doing if you must mod or you'll brick any system. Duh!

@BonzoBanana I can see you put a lot of effort into this research, but I'm not reading all of that, sorry

I see elsewhere that we've had the first online bans - note, not remote bricking - for people attempting to use Switch flash cartridges on the Switch 2.

That's always been the far more likely sanction Nintendo will apply if they detect signs of modding, and most serial modders wouldn't take their consoles online - at least not with Nintendo's services - in the first place.

Don't think I'd be pirating, it would just be nice to install some different apps/media and to mess around with the hardware to see what it really can and can't do.

TBH if you're not running unauthorised Switch 2 content I'm not sure what the actual value of Switch 2 modding is. It's not like there aren't other significantly more open devices on the market. Honestly the only thing my Steam Deck can't do that my Switch 2 can is run Switch 2 content

Arguably it's also more compact and more capable than Steam Deck. It also docks better so there's that. But if the goal is to have an open device that lets me mess around with it freely.... why would I get a Switch 2 for that when there are other devices that do that better?

Honestly, the only reasons I can think of are:
1. Because we can
2. Piracy

Since no one here has any record of your problem or support ticket this is all hearsay as to your issue with Nintendo Account was.

Anytime someone tells you about something they've personally experienced, do you really ask them to provide physical evidence or otherwise it's just "hearsay"? Must be kinda hard to live that way.

Nintendo will only "brick" your console if it is modified to play illegal pirated games, as long as you're not doing anything illegal then you're fine. To be honest this is a good thing because Nintendo put a lot of money and work in to creating their games, years of development, millions in costs, people shouldn't be able to just pirate them as that is stealing from Nintendo and putting future games and peoples jobs at risk.

If you're modifying your Switch or Switch 2 and you connect it to the internet they are going to brick it. WHY? To stop piracy of course!

Be honest, what else are you going to do with a modded switch besides piracy? Even if there are a very small percentage of people who do honest, legal things with a modded console, it is still primarily used for piracy.

I mainly use it for modded Smash, especially now that people have figured out how to add brand new characters(as in, actual fighters, not just skins). It rules

All that bricking Switch 2's is really going to 'achieve' for Nintendo is to exacerbate the furore with witch all those very clever hackers out there come after the Switch 2 and a full on jailbreak for the console is an absolute inevitability as a result.
Remember you are never going to fully stop piracy, or people just wanting to mess around with their consoles you just have to take steps that don't pose any threat to the general consumer in order to mitigate this behaviour.

@Dhaladog It's called the EULA/TOS and account bans, that's what Nintendo does. Those Hackers already don't comment on forums as these as they know you "NEVER" connect your Switch again to Nintendo Account or Servers.

I don't feel sorry for the pirates if that's what you're asking.

@strong_bonanza

I was answering the topic question not your post.

But if you want an answer to your post and your new post it would be the same. I don't feel sorry for the pirates if that's what you're asking.
