@JaxonH It's quantity over quality. A lot of S2Es which are just fluffed up ports/DLC, offering little new or advantageous, certainly not on the level of a full game. And when you filter all of that out... there's just really not enough IPs that I like, and some of the ones I do like have made questionable design decisions as mentioned earlier.

The Nintendo financial data has dropped.

10.36 million Switch 2s sold. 9.57 million mario karts which is an insane ratio.

3.49 million bananzas (this is up to Sep 30).

Mario Kart always has insane attach rate, but this is just next level. But that may just be because of the bundles. Bananza doing 3.49 million before even the holiday tells me that 10+ million is definitely possible, it might even hit 10 million by the end of the year with a chance to hit 20+ if the Switch 2 keeps up its sales momentum. That might be your answer for surprise IP that shoots up in sales as I mentioned in my previous post.

The financial report also answered our question about upgrade packs:
"Packaged versions of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition software are included in Nintendo Switch 2 software sales units, and downloadable versions are included in Nintendo Switch software sales units. Sales of upgrade packs are not included in software sales units."

That's... odd. So they don't report the upgrade packs as predicted but for some reason they count e.g. Jamboree S2 edition as a Switch 1 game if you buy it digital.

That is very odd and I'm almost wondering if that's a typo. Other than that, yeah, makes sense that they'd want to report who's buying the packaged versions separately. It'd be nice if they reported on upgrade pack sales separately to give us a good idea of how many people are actually playing the upgrades.

@Bolt_Strike
Two thoughts I've stated before on this question but I'll state again simply:

1. What about the Switch 2 sales performance thus far makes you think there is an issue here? It had already shipped over 10mill a month ago. It's doing well on this front

2. As an end user why should I care about sales performance beyond just "it's doing enough to attract software support"? When the Wii U bombed the only way that impacted me as a user was when games were cancelled or delayed because of the poor sales. I see no evidence of this here

@FishyS I think it makes sense reporting digital Switch 2 edition sales as Switch 1 sales considering the eshop listings for Switch 2 editions are "game + DLC" bundles so every Switch 2 edition sold is a sale for the Switch 1 version and the upgrade pack DLC.

@Bolt_Strike I only bought it because of the bundle. I wish I didn't buy that bundle to be honest.

You really need a mega seller for the holiday season (especially the FIRST holiday season) and the Switch 2... really doesn't. I suspect sales momentum is going to slow down (there's still going to be a sales bump for the holiday but I think it'll be less pronounced) until the mega sellers show up. Most likely the majority of people that would buy a Switch 2 are waiting for at least 2 or 3 mega sellers that they like.

Gosh, 10 million units sold? That's amazing! And we don't even have a 3D Mario or Zelda game announced yet! There's no stopping the Switch 2, lol. I'm still enjoying mine.

Holy ***** the new Hyrule Warrior's look awesome and I read a review that makes me tempted lmao.

70 bucks is unfortunately too much so I will wait until the eventual 33% discount and get it then, if my friend who gets it say it's good

The time draws nigh...

Never forget e3 2017. Never forget that "4" in space and how hyped we got. I jumped out of my chair at work and started screaming, guys thought I was crazy or something.

It's the end of 2025, and we're finally there. This is it.

@JaxonH And this game is worth the wait why? It just looks like a regular old Metroid Prime game with weird open world gameplay that arguably doesn't fit the Metroidvania gameplay. I have never felt my enthusiasm sapped so hard for a game that I was initially through the roof for but the marketing has been that godawful. I hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come for this game because Nintendo seems far less confident in this entry than the other 2025 games.

@Bolt_Strike You were always totally pessimistic about Pokémon Legends Z-A, and at the end of the day, the vast majority of people really liked the game.
Most likely the same thing will happen with the Prime 4.

I do agree the marketing has not been good, but I also don't know what version of Metroid Prime looks amazing in trailers. I've never been excited for Metroid Prime based on a Metroid Prime trailer except for the knowledge of how good Metroid Prime is from having played it.

I'm honestly not sure how you market Metroid Prime to a broad audience. Like the first game had the advantage of being likely the best looking console game ever made at release, otherwise...I dunno. I'd probably try to sell it as an atmospheric sci-fi game with action over an actual action game being the focus, if anything.

I'm all for tempering your expectations with Metroid Prime 4. It's clearly had a troubled development, with at least one false start and numerous delays. Waiting until the reviews are in probably isn't a bad idea.

That said, there are ways of saying that without interjecting whenever anyone else gets excited about it.

@kkslider5552000 The biggest thing they can do over what they're already doing is market Samus' abilities better. Focus on some of the things Samus can do and show how they help in both combat and exploration. They haven't really done much of that.

Furthermore, Prime 4 really needs more in the way of deep dive segments where they spend a few minutes explaining certain mechanics. The bike is sorely in need of this, they need to clarify how the bike fits into the Metroidvania gameplay.

Im not here to convince you to be excited. Be excited or don't- makes no difference to me.

But I'm more hyped than I've been for any game since MH Rise, and I speak to those who feel the same. If its not for you then simply don't respond about it.

To be fair, Z-A got rated the worst Pokemon in history on a Nintendo Life poll and was rated significantly worse than Arceus by professional critics and... actually it was rated near the bottom of the list on metacritic for Pokemon although above S/V and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.

I mostly enjoyed Z-A but it's definitely not my favorite Pokemon. Being good but not the best is fine for Pokemon because so many people buy it regardless, but if Prime 4 isn't a huge leap forward, the franchise will likely remain on the lower end of Nintendo IP. Which would be a bit disappointing after the years of hype.

I'm not necessarily pessimistic, but I am cautious and am surprised we didn't have a full direct showing new and exciting things. The trailer is pretty, but also pretty short.

Wow, worst Pokémon ever? I must have bad taste - I’d say it’s my favorite lol

But it’s probably because I just never liked the old formula, and this is even more diverged from that than Arceus.

Holy *****, ZA got that worse of a review? Tfw I feel like it's the best Switch Pokemon game and like, yeah it got some issues but it's just so goddamn fun. Lol, I wonder how many people vote it didn't play it and how many did though... it does have one of the worst hate comments around because environment when so many other parts got better

As mid as Z-A looks, S/V and BD/SP were completely embarrassing. Like they should not have been released as full priced products as is. I'd have felt insulted if I had paid 60 bucks for them.

BD/SP in particular feels like the peak of every underwhelming sprite to polygon art style shift that I've really grown to loathe. I really, really hate this trend, ever since NSMB kept getting more games, to turn classic sprites and 2D art into the bland version of itself and pretending its better because its technically more modern, more advanced. Admittedly, I'm not an expert on this dumb remake I didn't play, but if Gamefreak just ported B/W, the first Pokemon RPGs I missed out on, for the same price they were at launch, I'd be way more interested in buying it than a remake in this style.
