Oh remakes/remasters will absolutely be a thing from now until the end of time. But my guess is that the Switch 2 will focus on more recent systems and we see little to no GC remasters. But I don't think that's really a big loss to them. The GC didn't sell that well, and that extends to their games. Not a lot of them sold well enough to get consideration for a remake/remaster, the well has been pumped pretty dry by now. The only GC games that haven't had one on Switch that have also sold at least 1 million copies are Melee, Double Dash, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Luigi's Mansion, the Mario Parties, the Mario sports games, Animal Crossing, Pokemon Colosseum and XD, Star Fox Adventures, Kirby Air Ride, Donkey Konga, and Metroid Prime 2. And this isn't exactly a good bunch to remake. Several of them have been remade once already and would feel tiring to get again if there's little to no new content (which seeing how Nintendo handles them, there probably won't be). There's also several sports and party games which aren't really suitable for remakes. Then you can probably rule out Colosseum and XD, as they're side entries not made by Game Freak and it seems like TPC would prefer we all forget they existed. And Star Fox Adventures was controversial because it had a lot of un-Star Fox feeling gameplay. I mean, it's possible that they might do some of these, but there's not enough here that's particularly beloved and hasn't been covered. Most of the GC's lineup is a lot of niche cult classics that Nintendo probably won't make enough money on remaking. NSO would be a more profitable way to handle the GC's remaining back catalogue, they're not suitable for remakes. That's the most likely way we'll get the remaining games people want from GC like Wario World, F-Zero GX, etc.
My guess is Switch 2's remakes/remasters would be more from systems like DS, 3DS, and Wii. Maybe even a few Switch games that were super profitable for them. That's where the untapped potential is and what Nintendo probably thinks they're going to make money on.
That's odd, Nintendo did the XCX launch trailer 2 days before launch. Sometimes they do it a day before launch but I don't remember the last time it was 2 days before.
@Grumblevolcano Very weird how they did that. We haven't heard anything yet today. I don't think they'd announce anything day of the game either, but they did that with DKCRHD so anything is possible I guess. To me it seems like Nintendo is waiting to make Switch announcements until after the Switch 2 Direct, I feel like we would've heard something by now if they were going to say something.
@Bolt_Strike Not that I disagree with your point, but a few of the sub-1 million games are highly likely remake targets IMO. I wouldn't be surprised to see Four Swords Adventure remade with support for local 4 player play. Fire Emblem Path of Radiance will absolutely get remade sooner or later, being mainly a victim of releasing a decent ways into the Wii's lifespan and before FE took off. And the Donkey Konga games will probably never release on NSO, so a remaster collection with a perephrial seems more likely if anything. And frankly, a F-Zero GX remake is still quite possible IMO, it's one of those games that's gathered a growing following for decades now.
P much anything else that interests me isn't happening though, Geist, Odama, Chibi-Robo, Eternal Darkness, Doshin the Giant, Captain Rainbow, Custom Robo, there's a ton of deep cuts that they can use for NSO.

If you call 1-3 million "taking off". But IS seems to love pumping out FE games regardless so maybe.

They're definitely not going to release a peripheral, and they don't really need to. They can easily use motion controls like they did with Returns (I wouldn't be surprised if Returns took influence from Konga/Jungle Beat, you can kind of feel it with the segments where you have to repeatedly slam the ground to open up the path forward).

That depends, how many people have been playing 99? If anything, it feels like the fanbase has fallen off with each entry up until its hiatus seeing declining sales. Nintendo's not going to pull the trigger on a full game unless 99 shows a turnaround in those numbers. For the most part the calls for more F-Zero have felt like they've come from a vocal minority so far, they'll only increase that investment if the fanbase puts their money where their mouth is and proves that sentiment wrong.
@Bolt_Strike Yes, FE is a consistent seller now, and IS knows how to make a game on a budget where 1-4 million is profitable. Given the series is by far the most consistent source of income for IS, I don't see it slowing down anytime soon.
F-Zero 99 still has a decent size playerbase (at least from my experience), and Nintendo is still pushing new events and updates a year and a half after launch. Given it hasn't been abandoned after a year, it would seem it at least met whatever their expectations were for it. Given a new game is unlikely, and GX is the only game not on NSO, it's the most likely remake target.
I don't think Konga will return at all tbh, but I don't think motion controls will work for a rhythm game. The timing is too precise. If anything, button presses are more likely than motion controls.
@Alucard1337 my uncle who works at Nintendo actually told me it would be on April 1st, but he also muttered something under his breath afterwards. Something along the lines of “April Fulls”. Not really sure what he meant by that. Maybe the schedule for April is very full for Nintendo

Oh right, I forgot to mention regular buttons as a possibility, that could work too. But they're not going to do a peripheral. Peripherals cost extra money to make, decreasing profits. And since the game wasn't a huge seller, they're not going to want to take the risk making unneeded plastic junk to do what the Joy Con could already do.
@IceClimbers I think a lot of people's expectations have been astronomical for the last 2 months!
Though I struggle to believe Nintendo would give this thing a lead up of 11 weeks and be disappointing.
@IceClimbers My expectations for this one are reasonably high but would have been regardless of when they announced the Direct TBH. The release schedule has been pretty lackluster the just couple of years but I didn't mind that under the assumption that there were busy focusing development for the new console. Interested to find out what some of those games that they've been working on are.
I really hope Nintendo making us wait so long for the Direct doesn't end up backfiring by making people's expectations astronomically high.
All I really want is a release date, to see the new UI, and confirmation of a few details such as internal storage. Anything else is icing on the cake.

I don't really see how expectations WOULDN'T be astronomically high given the circumstances. We've had very few games in the last ~18 months. There's several IPs that have had long droughts that feel due for new entries. And this is a new console generation that's supposed to show an improvement over a phenomenal previous generation. Hard to keep expectations in check given those circumstances, we feel due for something big right now. If all of this waiting doesn't pay off in a big way, I will be very concerned about the Switch 2's fortunes.
Now I don't think it's reasonable to expect heaven and earth from this presentation, but there are some megaton announcements that should be here if they want to get off to a good start. Showing off interesting uses for the mouse functionality, more details on Mario Kart and Metroid Prime 4, and revealing the rumored open world 3D Mario are on my wishlist. Anything more than that is just gravy to me. If they fall short of this? Well maybe it depends on what else is shown off, but not having at least 1 or 2 more AAA games besides MK and MP4 feels like too little to start off with. This Direct needs to be comparable to the January 2017 Switch presentation. Maybe not quite that much, but close enough.
@IceClimbers Unless they do something stupid like focus too much on party games and have their 'One more thing' be something like New Super Mario Bros U2, I can't see where they can go wrong. Perhaps if the graphics aren't much of an upgrade over Switch, there could be a negative reaction but surely that won't be the case. As long as they bring the games, and the console has some decent power, I think it'll go well.
@Grumblevolcano Except for those that have no interest in Xenoblade I guess... also, people are going to be finishing this in 2 weeks?!? HLTB has the main campaign at >60hrs (for the original XCX), even that would take me at least a couple of months.

people are wild. This'll take me at least a month if I'm playing 2 hrs every day which I know i won't be able to.
