I don't think they'll get rid of the Twitter super soon, but given that people are actively fleeing from Twitter to Bluesky due to Twitter becoming a hellhole of racism and harassment- I don't think it'll be too far flung to believe companies are going to pull away from Twitter for good.

Especially given that a lot of companies are already doing that- if not already preparing for it. Monster Hunter's official account is also on Bluesky now. A good chunk of celebrities are also starting to leave twitter for Bluesky as well. The amount of people is continuing to get larger and larger on the daily, and I feel like Twitter is slowly going to keep dying as a result. Hell, even companies are pulling ads from Twitter.

I think Twitter's days are numbered. People forget what the internet was like before the late '00s and the rise of Twitter/Facebook/Reddit. It used to be a far more volatile and I'd argue far more interesting landscape of sites. It didn't take much for something new to come along and drag people away

For a while I thought that internet had gone forever, and maybe it has in a way. But I'm beginning to think it's kinda still there it's just that there's more people so it takes more time for things to shift. I feel like Twitter and Facebook increasingly have the stink of MySpace about them. It's only a matter of time

But I don't see Nintendo leaving for a bit. Maybe they'll start posting elsewhere but I doubt they'll stop posting on Twitter. Not yet anyways

I feel like Facebook got around that issue by buying half of their main competitors — instagram, whatsapp, etc. Of course they also own threads which is currently the largest competitor to twitter. Also there are a lot of countries where facebook is the primary access point to the internet. I wouldn't quite say meta is 'too big to fail', but it's very near that territory. I think that type of thing is the primary difference between now and the early internet — more people, yeah, but also with correspondingly massively more entrenched and powerful companies. And yeah someone could quibble about Facebook versus meta, but I choose not to.

Don't get me wrong, Twitter is definitely not in meta range of power and could die much more easily, although not at all easily still.

In this amount of time Bluesky is actually outpacing Threads in growth. I genuinely feel like it’s shaping up to be the larger competitor.

I went back to facebook the other day, apart from my elderly relatives, it's an absolute ghost town, where every other post is an ad or a "short" (usually of some young lady not wearing very much)

Nintendo leaving twitter is nonsense. The only people "fleeing" twitter are people with strong political opinions. Nintendo has never been a political company, so there's no chance they're going to abandon their biggest platform because of an election in another country.

@Sigran102 Capcom is posting on Bluesky. I fled from Twitter and I don’t have strong political opinions. I just don’t want my art stolen.

@Sigran102 Xbox has set up a Bluesky account waiting to be put into use, Devolver Digital uses Bluesky too and has done for a while. And as @VoidofLight said, Capcom now has one. I think PlayStation UK has one too but like Xbox is sitting waiting to be used. Businesses will go where people go and 20 million have accounts with Bluesky so it makes sense for businesses to also have accounts there either as well as or instead of Twitter.

@FragRed but they still have a twitter. Nintendo may make a blue sky account, but they're not leaving twitter.

Personally i left Twitter, not because of political reasons. But because I was fed up reading posts from bigoted idiots with no moderation.

@Sigran102 Not yet, but these places are preparing for Twitter’s death. It’ll be them posting on both, but slowly move over to them posting more on Bluesky and less on Twitter.

@Novamii We're getting the DK Land games quicker than Nintendo Music drops at this point XD

I really hope we get Donkey Kong 64 on NSO, I haven't been able to play the story but the multiplayer was really fun! I bet we'll get DK Land 3 pretty soon, and perhaps DK 64 closer to launch of DKC Returns HD? I also really hope to see Diddy Kong Racing return, one of the best racing games from Nintendo. Perhaps we could also the the Gameboy Color remakes of the Donkey Kong Country games? There's a lot of potential for DK games on NSO, I really hope we get a DK blowout!

@PikminMarioKirby Diddy Kong Racing would be the dream! I actually recall preferring that game to MK64...

They finally added 'Mercs' to the Sega Mega Drive!
I can't remember when and where but I remember writing something on this forum, wanting this game on NSO.
I played it again today. It's just like I remember it. Like it was yesterday.
You can call me weird, but it was one of my absolute favourite games back then.

@Budda Not weird at all. It was in my top 10 Megadrive games too. I love the music.

Since NSO is confirmed for Switch 2, it’s got me thinking of what they might add to the service. I mean, I doubt Nintendo will add nothing to NSO within those several years of Switch 2. Here are some of my predictions:

  • 3rd tier of NSO: Nintendo will likely make a new tier for NSO during the life of the next console, probably a $20-30 dollar hike in the price.
  • GameCube: This is the most obvious one in my opinion, as it’s next in order for consoles. This would likely be in the 3rd tier of NSO.
  • DS This is the next handheld in line and has a lot of games that haven’t returned to modern consoles, and Nintendo has done 2 screens on one for games before, so they could easily do it again. My guess is this would be on Expansion Pack or the potential 3rd tier, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this on the base NSO as well.
  • Wii: This would probably be the last console for NSO on Switch 2. Probably would be on 3rd tier NSO. Some might say GCN and Wii are too new for NSO, but Wii came out 10 years after N64 and included N64 games in virtual console, and Wii has just one home console between it and 64. Switch 2 will have 2 home consoles between Wii, and Wii will be 20 years old in 2026. Especially if GCN and Wii are on higher tiers (and therefore feeling more premium/exclusive) of NSO, this could work out quite well.
  • That NSO Playtest game?: this seemed to be an expansion pack exclusive, and tbh I kind of forgot about it. Maybe somepoint in the next 1-2 years this could get an official release?
  • Menu themes: my idea behind it is that there are some free menu themes, maybe some paid ones, and then NSO ones. I think this would work similar to how the NSO icons work. Maybe we could get menu themes based off of game releases?
  • Free Switch games: This would be interesting, although I don’t see it very likely. It would almost certainly be a 3rd tier thing, where maybe you’d get a free Switch games every month/year? I don’t really know how this would work, but it’d probably be similar to how Xbox game pass works.

What do you all think we’ll see added to NSO during the Switch 2’s life? Do you agree with the things I listed or think they’re likely?

@PikminMarioKirby Think Nintendo are more likely going to milk remasters and remakes of any first party game from the GameCube, Wii, DS and 3DS consoles they can to supplement the schedule throughout the Switch 2 lifespan.

@PikminMarioKirby Please no third tier, just make tier 2 more worthwhile. I would love free games but I am skeptical Nintendo would go that route. DS might convince me to finally subscribe to expansion pack though.

The other thing I want is better vouchers. Let me get mario vs DK for $40... it's stupid that the vouchers let you buy a $50 game for $50. That would make expansion pack more tempting also.

@FishyS @Novamii I definitely don't want a 3rd tier, although I'd be very tempted to get it if it included a good amount of GameCube/Wii games. I don't think a 3rd tier would fail financially, but it definitely could disappoint some consumers depending on what is included at it's launch.

I like the vouchers a lot, (I have one left, but waiting for a game to be announced that'll interest me) but I'd really like to see a different deal for the $50 games.
