@rallydefault
Thank you for the tip! Not being able to track which P-Switches I find worries me a little bit, but I will try to enjoy it nonetheless. Maybe I can find a good guide or YouTube video.
@Dev-N
Congratulations on not giving up and winning the cups and rallies!
@Dev-N Legend, any tips for knockout? I find that the first race is usually the hardest, making sure you're 1st at the 1st checkpoint can be quite rough... especially if the initial lap is short!
@CJD87
If you're going for the 3 stars in each one, then obviously you need to get in front right away. Don't get the boost start, grab the first item box, and you'll probably get some mushrooms. Use the first shortcut on whatever knockout track it is to cut in front, and from there, always have a trail item. At each double box, if you don't have a horn, dump your items for another chance at a horn.
Also, if/when the blue shell comes for you and you don't have a horn, hit the rewind button right before it hits you. It takes you back a bit, but you keep your speed and it's almost always better than taking the hit. You only need to briefly hold down on the d-pad; that should be enough rewind time.
The rewind trick for blue shells, whilst it does set you back slightly, is a real gift when you don't have a suitable item to mitigate the hit!
I'm doing most of what you've both kindly advised, the real issue I am having is the Spiny Rally (4th cup) that begin on the Boo /planks course.... such a short initial lap, and tricky to get in front.
Am changing out ton Bowser and the reel racer, and have already seen better results.
Wish me luck, this game has caused more rage quits than dark souls
@rallydefault Just beaten the Spiny Rally.... Bowser and reel racer seems to be the way to go.
Adaptive difficulty is tough to manage also, but ultimately I am finding that Knockout Tour you really need to 'play properly' (aka using all tools, tricks) to stand a chance.
Delighted to have 3***'d the spiny cup... only have 3 left (cheery acorn heart)
@CJD87
Yeah, World's difficulty can be brutal. I totally agree with @Dev-N, the game can feel like a lottery and patience is your best friend. I wish you success and have fun!
Found my first 11 P-Switches today. One of the wall grinding challenges was really tough to beat. I am following a Youtube guide, so I do not have to wonder later which switches I am missing. I like the challenges.
@tr1p1ex
It does, but in practice it's a bit more nuanced. It's not like the other racers just stop challenging you and drop back, stop using items, etc. as soon as you stop drifting. They'll still throw reds and blues at you. They'll still gain on you. And like @Dev-N said, sometimes you still have to drift, basically.
Basically, just play normally. Unless you're a competitive MK god, the AI is going to provide a good match for you either way.
Just learned the game apparently uses direct player to player connection rather than dedicated servers. This is really disappointing as it means this game's online likely won't work on my college WiFi, just like 8 deluxe didn't. It's really annoying how Nintendo keeps cheaping out on online play when it comes to their games.
It's crazy how much Nintendo hates their own fans honestly. The overwhelming consensus online was that intermission tracks were too frequent online. And now they made them be more frequent in the update. Absolutely inexcusable.
I am not sure if that was a wide consensus at all - it was just something that a lot of vocal people on the Internet said but these are also the people who obsess about time trials and finding every single charge jump Shortcut.
Personally, I was hovering at around 8.4k which is quite high and 9 out of 10 races I played were three lap ones which eventually got very boring as a lot of them aren't balanced around having 24 racers. At some point I intentionally tanked my rating into the high 7k and voila - 60-70% of my races had roads in them which is how it should be given thats the distribution of tracks in the game.
I'm sort of frustrated, but I do have a question: Why are we all choosing to forget that quite often one of the three specific choices is a non-connected track that still lets you do the 3 laps? At least in my experience, I would say slightly more than half the time you have random, two connected options, and one further-away track that would be a traditional 3-lap race.
@rallydefault Eh, I wouldn't say it's "quite often", it's maybe once every three or four races in my experience. And even if one shows up, it's not getting picked. So at most, you're probably getting 3 lap races 10-20 percent of the time, which is abysmal.
@neo9eo Yeah and understandably. I'm personally upset because I love the game, but now have pretty much no desire to play it anymore. Nintendo clearly did this just to piss people off, and it's working lol
@Bigmanfan
Well then I don’t know what’s going on because I would say I get one about half the time.
I think you are waaaay off base with Nintendo wanting to make people angry. Makes no sense. You’re falling into the internet trap of thinking everyone wants 3-lap races because that’s what you see on YouTube and forums and stuff.
In reality, the 3 laps are frustratingly chaotic if the lobby is full with 24 racers.
The best thing Nintendo could have done is an adaptive selection: if the lobby is like half full, throw some 3-laps races in. If the lobby is full, you need more of the bigger roads of the intermission.
I think eventually they’re gonna have to just do a traditional 12-racer online mode for those who want to do the 3 laps only.
