They could come out swinging with some cool 3rd party games. Like somebody mentioned before probably Baulders gate 3 and hopefully monster hunter wilds. I’ll almost bet money the new Doom game is day one.

@Anti-Matter I agree! I been wanting Arms 2 for years. I hope they didn’t abandon the IP.

-Mario Kart 9 with some kind of new twist. I don't care if the twist is open world or some kind of new traversal gimmick or what, it just needs to feel like a legitimate improvement over Mario Kart 8 seeing as we've been playing it for 11 freaking years.
-Open world 3D Mario. Literally they can just take Bowser's Fury, make it a full game, and throw in a new gimmick.
-3D DK game that's a hybrid platformer/beat em up. Think something like God of War, Knack, or the Werehog from Sonic Unleashed, anything in that style.
-A Starlink style Star Fox game.
-A remake/reimagining of OoT with more open world type elements (or at least in the hub world, make it feel larger and have more stuff to do) and a better paced story.
-A 2.5D reimagining of Yoshi's Story with pop up book level gimmicks (for example, Yoshi could pull a pull tab with his tongue and platforms will pop out).
-Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends Z-A as cross gen games.

The dream would be:

1. From the ground up Zelda Ocarina of time remake in the style of the Wii U tech demo. This would make the Switch 2 the greatest console ever immediately. I will travel through time to slap my face after the wind waker reveal and say stop whining and just wait.

2. Splatoon 4, with splitscreen support (online and offline with bots) I really want to play this together with my family without needing a stock of switches.

3. Rebooted Smash bros? Really looking forward to see what they will do with this franchise after ultimate.

4. 3D Mario. I was dissapointed with Odessy. Not that it was a bad game but the realistic parts in it really put me of. It didn't match. A realistic dinosaur, realistic dark worlds, realistic people. It didn't match. Hopefully they keep Mario in a more animated world this time.

Oot is unlikely due to the fact that it is Majora’s anniversary this year, so unless we get both this year, I can’t see it happening. Where as Wind Waker and tp have been rumoured to be locked up waiting for release for a long time

Also I hate to break it to you, but I don’t think Splatoon is going to be local multiplayer ever. You’d have to change so much about the design of the game with such a heavy emphasis on personal customisation.

@Xenoblade-Fan don't think Nintendo does much with some anniversaries, If I recall right they didn't do anything for the 25th anniversary for Ocarina of Time two years back. But I agree with you that it will most likely not be a launch game if it comes.

As for Splatoon 4. I'm afraid it will never come. But who knows, it's a requested feature, Nintendo might surprise. We can always hope.

SillyG
  • A blockbuster game (I strongly doubt we'll get anything on the scale of Zelda: BOTW, but something to get the ball rolling)
  • Something Pokémon
  • A revival of a classic casual series from DS era (preferably Nintendogs)
  • Another surprise IP revival
  • A party game (in the spirit of Wii Sports, Nintendo Land, and/or WarioWare)

@1UP-HUSKY Definitely, Nintendo doesn't care about anniversaries that much and I like your requests!

I am not an omega fan of Animal Crossing, but I do like the games. But if Nintendo launched Switch 2 with a brand-new Animal Crossing, I swear both it and the system would sell like hotcakes! Animal Crossing appealed to people from 6-year-olds, to teens, to adults, to even elderly!

New Horizons was perfect during covid, and it got people introduced to the series. Many people put HOURS into that game and might be dying to get a bigger, better new game of that series. I think a new Animal Crossing game with new features, larger scopes, mouthwatering graphics, more customization, better online, and even more to do would be a great way to sell the system.

It would appeal to everyone and get old fans, people who got New Horizons, and if the game did the right stuff, it would bring in new people!

Warning: Spicy opinions like "M&Ms are overrated." may leak from this unit!

My dream team list would be MK9, Metroid 4, a new F-Zero and Splatoon 4.

@CobaltFan Now THAT would make me want a Switch 2 right away. A brand new Animal Crossing game alone is something I'd want as soon as possible. I've been an Animal Crossing fan since New Leaf, and I played the heck out of New Horizons since it came out... plus I've made a lot of friends here on Nintendo Life that also played NH.

Honestly if the rumours about the mouse gimmick are true then I'd love to see a "New play control" release for the switch pikmin games.
It would be lovely to see updated versions of the Switch Sonic the Hedgehog games.
I think we will see either BOTW or Tears get some sort of rerelease for the new system.

In contrast to the huge blocks of paragraphs everyone is writing about what games they want to see launched on the Switch 2, and their reasons to why they want these games so much. I thought I should be really quick and straight to the point. No beating around the bushes, just straight up say the two words that make up the name of the game I am talking about. Now Sony no longer owns the IP, and the game is out on Xbox, a Switch 2 release shouldn’t a problem. It was originally a PS4 game so I’m hopeful.

So less a want list, well kinda a want list, but more of a slightly hopeful guestimate

  • Mario Kart 9/10 (because it's in the trailer, and it's the obvious pick)
  • Metroid Prime 4 (core title, good showcase for visuals and mouse input)
  • Hades 2 (the dates just line up fairly well for this to be a possibility)
  • Street Fighter 6 (don't sleep on this as an option, it's selling REALLY well and is a solid fit)
  • Something from Shin'en (because there always is)
  • Something from Nintendo to demo the mouse input, a Mario Paint or Wario Ware or something

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions

FragRed

@skywake I’m expecting the next game from Shin’en in the Fast racing series. Fast RMX was a real great game and really showcased what they can achieve on Nintendo’s hardware with a small team/budget.

There's probably multiple games and maybe some of those will happen at some point, but at launch my guess is that the Wii Sports/Nintendo Land/1-2 Switch equivalent will have a lot of mini games that show off the mouse functionality. Those kinds of games do exist to show off how the gimmicks for their respective consoles can work.

@skywake I definitely think SF6 is viable. Both Tekken 8 and SF6 run reasonably well on Steamdeck, so we could surely assume Switch2 would be a great home for these games. Both would also serve as a good platform for Nintendo to showcase itself in the competitive/multi-player arena.

Realistically, I think launch year will look something like this: Mario Kart 9, Mario 3D platformer, Metroid Beyond, some mini game collection sold for $70, Hyrule Warriors 3, Smash Bros Ultimate: Ultimate, Mario Sports game, Pokemon.
Maybe: ARMS 2 (ARM2 ?). This is a make or break one for me. The first game sold well enough to warrant becoming a franchise, but sometimes I feel like Nintendo was expecting Spaltoon levels of success. They need to show me they care about ARMS if I'm going to show them I care about Switch 2.
Wishful thinking: Waverace, 1080, Excite Truck, Starfox, F-Zero (almost put this under "maybe", but F-Zero 99 seemed like a test of interest, and it tapered off quick).
