@FishyS
Which two remasters did they release in 2025? I assumed you meant Zelda games but if not, I can only think of DKC Returns and Xenoblade Chronicles X.
I would absolutely hate this if it does come true.
Are we condemned to see nothing but ports, remasters, remakes, and "enhanced Switch 2" editions?
The fact that OoT has already been released 6 times shows that this isn't a new phenomenon 😆 We got 3 brand new zelda games 2023-2025 so it makes sense we are getting a remake now. Still a decent ratio of brand new stuff.
Tbh, its not like we were gonna get any new Zelda game this year regardless. If this OOT rumor isn't true, there's almost zero chance any Zelda is coming out this year (barring the long hoped for WW/TP HD ports anyway).
It's not like this is like my favorite example of the over-reliance of re-releases where Sega remastered Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz so they could justify remastering the Monkey Ball games people care about so they could justify making a new game. That was just obnoxious.
Eh, I think its more likely than not that something Zelda will come out this year, by historical track record if nothing else. Over the past 10 years there have been about 15 games released, not counting the Switch 2 Edition update packs. Its just. . . that's everything: 2D, 3D, spinoffs, remasters. And the thing fans have most consistently called for, a New 3D Title, is also the most vanishingly unlikely by simple development timeline. It just hasn't been that long since TOTK released.
Which is why I'd encourage people to get keep their hopes restrained with regard to a hypothetical "OoT Remake". A ground up remake in the style that I've seen a lot of people talk about would functionally be an entire new giant scope game, and so is implausible for the same reason "BOTW 3" would be implausible. If an "OoT Remake" actually does exist as a thing releasing this year, its almost certainly a lot more like the Skyward Sword HD Remaster than anything else: same game, slightly shinier graphics and UI/QoL upgrades.
@metaphysician
My thinking is that this remake has been in development for at least three years, essentially around the time Tears "initially" (before it was delayed) wrapped.
We should also learn from the Bananza/Odyssey situation when it comes to assuming dev teams: When it became apparent that the Odyssey team worked on Bananza, everybody assumed that meant the entire Odyssey team did the game. Lo and behold, only some of the Odyssey team was on Bananza.
I think the same thing is happening here. I have no doubts some of the 3D Zelda team is working on the Ocarina remake, but I would think most of the development is being done by partner studios, making it entirely feasible this thing has been in the works for quite some time at a low simmer.

Or, alternatively, Nintendo could have simply have had another studio do the remake while the main Zelda team is working on the next game. That's why we got a ground-up remake of Link's Awakening only 2 years after BotW, because Grezzo developed it. Heck, I think it's even possible Nintendo has had Grezzo do this hypothetical OoT remake as well, since they were the ones who developed its previous remake on the 3DS.
@Polvasti
As I said in my post, yes, most likely we're looking at one or more partner studios working on the Ocarina remake with a few of the actual 3D Zelda team.
But personally, I don't think it's Grezzo. Grezzo did make the 3DS Ocarina (and Majora's Mask, I believe), but that was a long time ago, and since then they have only worked on the 2D stuff when it comes to Zelda.
I think Nintendo is keeping them on the 2D rotation.
Most people think Monolith has a big hand in this.
@metaphysician It's an already constructed game, they just need to swap out the models for higher quality ones. And even my ambitious suggestion of a larger Hyrule Field and more dungeons really isn't a significant expansion, that's about as much as a Bowser's Fury-esque expansion. This wouldn't take 7 years to make, they could finish that with a delay into 2027 at worst.
