out of nowhere, we have an app that can almost sorta free you from nintendo.com.
you can browse the my nintendo store (can't purchase from within the app though!) among other things, including seeing your entire play history for some reason? i now know i got my 3ds on christmas in 2015 alongside kirby triple deluxe. neat i guess?
this was originally the "my nintendo app", which... makes sense i suppose

for the record, when i mention the "my nintendo app", that was something japan-exclusive aaaaallll the way back in 2020.
i can only assume someone reminded the people that made that app that it existed and decided it made sense to rebrand close to the switch 2's launch.
looking through bluesky, i get the idea that people hate going through nintendo.com and im not entirely sure why? like everything runs better here but it wasn't that bad just going on the website

I love that we can see daily playtime but ... why is Nintendo continuing their insane rounding?
I have a game with 229 hours of playtime. What I see is:
On Switch: '225 or more'
On the new app: 'over 200 hours'???
Why are they rounding to the nearest 50?
They give daily times so in theory rather than accepting their 200, I could scroll down and add up the times for each of the 144 days I have played that game. I am not going to do that but it should be noted that each day rounds down to 15 minute intervals so even if I did add them all up, the result could be up to 35 hours off. Why oh why can't Nintendo just give us an accurate total sum? I feel like the difference between 14.9 and 10 hours is actually a pretty major difference.
Also, of all the apps and places where Daily Playtime could be, being in the Store app is a very weird choice.
I downloaded the app as soon as I saw the article about it on NL. It's pretty cool, but something about it bugs me: I'm pretty sure that not all of my playtime there is accurate. For example, Link's Awakening 2019 does not include any of my playtime prior to 2021 (I got the game at Christmas 2019 and played it in 2020-2021, as well as a replay last year). For another example, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake playtime only goes from May to June when I actually played it from May to July 🤣. And my BotW playtime is still there even though I deleted my save data for that one and cleared my play history on my profile a few weeks ago to have it gone since I've been playing my dad's copy and am not going to own that one when I grow up. Is hiding it the only way to have it leave?
@Nep-Nep-Freak Nintendo used to have some errors with playtime in the earlier Switch days, especially when changing devices. I think that is fixed now but the old timing errors presumably persist.
No idea why the reset play history wouldn't work... The hide history will hide it but I'm not sure if there is a way to set the timer from scratch.
The 3DS Activity Log was unbeatable, accurately showing the hours played.
This new app seems to have worsened the way hours are counted, which was already pretty bad on the Switch. The only advantage is being able to see all the games played on the Switch, and not just the last 20.
Viewing my 3DS history is cool, but it's better to check on the 3DS itself if I want to see the precise numbers.
@Rodolfo6493 Even if the time isn't totallly accurate, It is kinda fun looking at the daily playtime for Switch in the new app. It has my playtime for 546 days of mario maker 2, reaching all the way back to 2019.
@FishyS Yes, that's a good feature.
It will be very useful for managing the hours played during the week. And it was interesting to note that I ended up playing more than 8 hours a day on certain games. 🤣
