It hasn't even been a full year yet, and we have already gotten an announcement for the second Mario movie. Now we've got a long time before this movie comes out on April 3, 2026, so that means we have plenty of time to predict what to expect.
So without further ado, in your opinion what will "The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2" look like?
I'm kind of glad an early storyboard has already leaked and essentially put to bed the idea that this is a spinoff instead of an actual sequel. Originally, I would've guessed the second movie would be a hodgepodge of elements from the mainline games again, with an emphasis on World due to the Yoshi tease. Not entirely sure what they'd do otherwise, but I liked the idea of introducing Wario and Waluigi as plumbers ripping off the brand of the Bros. in Brooklyn, winding up in the Mushroom Kingdom, unwittingly freeing Bowser, and kinda going along with him for a while. It'd be more difficult to justifiably introduce Bowser Jr. or the Koopalings despite the nod to Ludwig in the first movie, so I think it might work best depending on where the sequel picks up from. I could also see them adapting the plot point from NSMBU where Bowser takes over the Mushroom Kingdom and corrupts it into a lava world as a means of raising the stakes. Lastly, I think basing a prospective third movie mostly around Galaxy would be a good call as well, given it has especially high stakes and a more mature and somber vibe.
Of course, the leaked storyboard kind of flies in the face of all that and might be suggesting they're unironically tapping into Super Mario Bros. 2, given it showed Mario and Luigi wearing hoods in a market that reminded me of Shy Guy Bazaar, and it even got a copyright takedown to boot, but it's ambiguous.
There are lots of obvious locales they could visit -
In the first movie we've seen the starter world/plains, lava/darklands, jungle (sort of) , ice (sort of), water (sort of), and airship (sort of). Sky, desert and star/special worlds are obvious ones we haven't seen yet. Or castle. or Cave/subworld or island/beach. And it would be fun if they grabbed giant world from smb3. I assume the movie will show off lots of things in one or more of those.
As for plot? Honestly don't know, but I would love some more lore after the teaser they gave us for Peach's background. And I also want them to to be on a boat at least once so the main Toad who is clearly Captain Toad can have a Captain reference.
It seems like Peach's background relates to Galaxy, but I can't imagine they would go fully to space yet in the second movie.
@FishyS Ooh a airship would be very interesting.
Space would be cool, I like space... (no kidding bud)
Space and Games are similar. Space is endless and new stuff is out there waiting to be discovered. Games are always being made but the creativity is different from one game to another and so many more ideas still haven't been imagined or created yet. (That came out better than expected lol)

Why don't you do things you actually like doing? You're slowly starting to take the fun out of this place and getting a lil exhausting honestly. I guess one of the reasons I don't interact on here much and just look at the news.
Inb4 you're entitled to feel how you like. I'm also entitled to share that I don't wanna sink with your ship.
On second thought I'm taking you with me. I'll pay for you just show up.
@N00BiSH
I just know where you came from... I don't want you to lose all you had. cry emoji I'm sorry I was mean to you! So what things do you like then... You like plants? Coffee? Let's discuss this somewhere else...
I'm mildly tempted to finally watch the first one tomorrow because of this.
Unfortunately I have zero belief that the Mario movie is better than "ok", which is why I'm only mildly tempted. If its like even 7/10 good I'll be stunned. (to be fair, I'll also be stunned if its awful)
@MrHorse Nah it was mid. There was no grand ambition with the movie beyond being a series of references for the audience to clap to and be entertained by bright colours and noise. They still couldn't pull that off and started using shoehorned in pop songs ruining it's impressive score of Mario music.
The Mario Movie was peak cinema slop for the chronically online generation to make TikToks of themselves in the cinema live soyjacking to references like trained monkeys.
Watching it at home it was like fast food; completely inoffensive and unremarkable and I forgot everything about it half an hour later. I literally remember nothing of the plot if it even had one.
