I loved the idea of a portable Virtual Console from Nintendo but they failed so horribly at it. Even despite the ridiculous prices (£4.50 for an old NES game? Really? I can buy Skyrim on sale for less than that) I bought quite a lot of games from the service. The problem is that if you compare this payed product to any free emulator, Nintendo loses. They couldn't even compete with their own 15+ year old hardware; no different palettes for GB games and no multiplayer.
Perhaps Nintendo will do a bigger retro catalogue with NX? Time will tell!
Lol. I'm not betting a purchase on that. The 3DS and Wii U Virtual Consoles were significantly worse than the Wii's. NX's will be worse still or non-existent at the rate they're going.
Isn't this really old news anyway? Didn't Natsume say this a few months ago and even NintendoLife reported on it? At any rate their tweet is really hollow. "Nintendo said they have done wit it", okay? So... where's your proof? Why has only Natsume said Nintendo is done? There are other third parties who released GB games on the 3DS VC and only they spoke up.
Was it GameFreak or just a rumor that said they won't release any main Pokemon RPGs because they're "outdated"?
@Morpheel: Its a real problem. The whole point of Pokemon is social communication and having them only for single player won't be that great. That's why spin offs focus solely focus on one player which I can agree since the games are possible to port over.
One big problem is that there aren't many first party Nintendo games on the Gameboy. Pokemon, Super Mario Land Trilogy, Donkey Kong Land trilogy, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Kirby and Zelda which they nearly ported every single game for each IP mentioned. I'm assuming the reason why Tetris got delisted is because of licensing issues. The majority of the games belong to third parties big time. The only ones that Nintendo has to release are the ones they either have issues releasing it or have just plain forgotten to port them.
@Artwark: I can assure you it's not a problem. You won't be able to evolve a few mons or complete the pokedex, but...
As a kid I never ever met anyone else with the games and a link cable. Even then I still developed an unhealthy obsession became a huge fan of the series. I played and replayed my copy of Blue like it was my only game.
@Morpheel: @BinaryFragger: You're missing the point. Since catching all the Pokemon is part of the experience, they don't want that to obviously be butchered. Mario Kart DS was supported by a third party online service and because it got shut down, Nintendo can't do anything about it besides the other option which is to remake the game which is something Nintendo doesn't want to do because of the fact that Mario Kart 7 happened. The experience in Mario Kart DS isn't that demanding as it is in Pokemon because you can still have fun in Mario Kart DS without multiplayer despite it being the strongest point of the entire game.

Have you actually played the Gameboy R/B? It was almost impossible to complete the 'dex due to it being too limited with the starters with no way to breed them, the only people whoever did complete the dex where the ones with two Gameboys. Also "Gotta catch them all" was created by the anime and not the game itself.
Nintendo is done with VC for 3ds? pffffft, I was done with Nintendo's VC a long time ago. That service is a joke. Super small compared to the Wii's VC, overpriced on the Wii U (9.99 for a 64 game when Sony has PS2 games at the same price), and never any sales. also, 64 games looked much better (vibrant colors, crisp lines) on Wii than Wii U. ( --_--)
Also, you don't need to trade to enjoy Pokemon. My sister and I shared Pokemon Red and we never had anyone to trade with in school, but that didn't stop us from maxing out the time counter on Red. I think it has more to do with Nintendo being afraid that some gamers will find the one version they like and never bother upgrading to newer versions as long as they can still play their favorite.
