Topic: Ugreen ethernet adapter disconnects on my Switch

Hey all

So as per title, I bought a ugreen ethernet adapter so I could play using wired when playing Smash

https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Ethernet-1000Mbps-Compatible-...

Problem is it keeps disconnecting itself from the wired connection, it'll work and then suddenly the green and orange lights on the adapter will turn off and the switch will loose all connection completely, and then it'll come back on again.

I've tried deleting my wifi profiles, as well as turning off the "connect automatically" thing for wifi, but the ethernet adapter still seems to disconnect/reconnect all the time no matter what.

I'm trying the adapter now on my PC and so far it hasn't caused any issues, so I don't think the product is faulty, or the ethernet cable.

Really lost as to what I could do to fix this, tried googling this as well but couldn't find any fix.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I don't know if I can help as I don't use this adaptor but can I ask a few questions...

Are you using it docked or with a usb-c adaptor?

Are you using it in the usb 3.0 port in the back of the dock as opposed to the two on the side?

Is it going directly into your router? Or into a (networking) switch elsewhere in your house?

See ya!

@ralphdibny
Sorry forgot to mention, yeah its in its dock and using the 3.0 port on the back.

I did look at nintendos official site on it, and they said if its connected directly to modem to unplug anything else hooked up to modem, and to also turn off the modem for 30 seconds then back on to "power cycle" it.

I did this and the connection seemed stable for awhile but then after an hour or so it started with the disconnecting again

The only thing I can think to do now is look into issues with my router/modem and maybe do some port forwarding

@Doktor-Mandrake I don't think I can help.

I don't know much about it so I am sure somebody will correct me or lambast the futility of my suggestions but I would try each of the following (separately).

1. I would try each port in the router separately and see if there are different results with each. There might be a port or two that has different specs but it might not be obvious. (This might be an easy thing to check before moving on to my next suggestion)

2. Try setting up a static IP and see if that helps. (I think this might be in conjunction with the port forwarding you suggested but I'd try it with and without to see if either works)

Did you leave the other stuff disconnected from the router and the adaptor still failed after an hour? Or were the other devices reconnected before it failed?

As unhelpful as this is, these are the things I would try that preclude the notion that the adaptor is faulty. It's not impossible that it could function correctly with one device and misbehave with another.

Edit: oh yeah I'd try swapping the network lead first actually because that could be intermittently faulty.

Hey, really sorry I didn't get back to you

Managed to fix it, I dug out an older router that I had lying around, after hooking it up to that it seems to be working correctly now

So I'm guessing it was probably an issue with it being plugged directly into my hub provided by my ISP
