I've had my switch for about three years now. Recently, however, when I try to put it out of sleep mode, I find out that its battery died. It just started recently after the firmware update, so it might have something to do with that. Is anyone else having/had this problem?

@Bluelink45 About 3-4 years ago, I think that issue happened before. Some people's switch batteries were running down while in sleep mode after a Switch OS update. I think Nintendo put out an update later to resolve it.
(I rarely use sleep mode, so I haven't encountered it.)

So, was your switch plugged in or docked while in sleep mode? Did you leave a game open for that sleep period? If this is an update related issue, you may be waiting until Nintendo puts out an update for the fix.

Until you see or learn something else, you may have to avoid sleep mode, or avoid sleep mode with a game open, or only use sleep mode while plugged in or docked. If the battery died while docked/plugged in for sleep mode, then you have to start entertaining, be sure to unplug the ac adapter and unplug the dock to let them shut down completely (aka reset).
