Topic: Switch 2 won't turn on - What causes this?

So last night I was going to download the Air Riders Global Test. I hadn't used my Switch 2 for 6 days but it's been in the dock, plugged in and in sleep mode as normal.
As I go to take it out, I notice it's a little warmer than usual and when I try to turn it on - nothing even when I hold it down, nothing.

But luckily Nintendo has a support page for this issue where you hold the power button for 20 seconds and then press it again to perform a hard reboot. Thankfully this fixed it and it's been working absolutely fine all morning.
The thing is, I've experienced a similar issue with Switch 1 a handful of times where it also feels slightly warm when first picked up from the dock only in that instance it turned on as if it had been powered off normally even though it's been left in sleep mode.
I should mention both consoles live in different rooms with the Switch 1's being quite big and the 2's being, not small necessarily but definitely has the potential to get quite warm if there's a heater on or something.

If I hadn't have experienced it (albeit to a lesser extent) on Switch 1 I'd probably just put it down to the environment it's in but I'm wondering whether it's something to do with not being properly powered off in a while. Meaning it's either on, or in sleep mode. And it's been a little while since the last firmware update where it's had to restart, so my best guess is it has something with that as it can apply to both systems.

I'm not worried about either consoles as they both work fine and in the case of Switch 1, this is something I've only experienced a few times in the span of years and that's working just fine but I will keep an eye on Switch 2 as the effect on it was a bit more dramatic and I've only had it for 5 months.

Has anyone else experienced what I'm describing?

@Nintoz Yeah, that could be "wont wake from sleep mode", a common issue. Sounds like you found the support page.

For some people, switch sleep mode doesn't seem stable, especially for extended periods. It may be more stable if a game isn't left running, and wifi is off, but it's just a guess. Shutting down and rebooting can solve it (or help clear out the cobwebs).

I have no idea why some people have problems and others don't. I don't know if it's particular behaviors, games or wifi, environment, or all of the above. Although, I always shut down for the day and keep my console in a drawer when not in use, and I never have issues. Granted, I realize possibly 90%+ of people probably use sleep mode nightly. I personally don't like wasting lithium battery charge cycles on sleep mode or leaving a rechargeable device plugged in, since those both contribute to degrading rechargeable lithium battery capacity at a quicker rate.

@WoomyNNYes Thanks for your take on it, yeah that all checks out and it doesn't surprise me that an issue like this is pretty common.
I still find the heat thing a bit weird but like I said, it has no effect on the console's performance so I assume, if anything, it's an intentional, regulatory procedure to stop the console from overheating if it's been continuously running (albeit on low power) for several weeks.
Not 100% sure though, I'm no tech expert lol!

@Nintoz do you or anyone in your home smoke? Even a little smoke can gunk up your air vents, making your devices overheat and shut down. Proper ventilation is key: even humidity and dust can pile up fast and kill your hardware if you’re not careful.

@Nintoz Yeah, a lot of people make posts complaining that their console is sleeping while docked (or possibly plugged in) and they're surprised to find the console is warm. I don't know if it's just some charge maintaining the battery, or maybe the Switch's sleep mode just isn't the simple, constant deep sleep power saving mode they expect, like with smartphones and tablets.

@SirLink Nope, no smoking or vaping at all. If anything, the room with the Switch 1 in is airy!

@Nintoz Do you use wifi or a wired connection for your console?

Google and a reddit post suggest that the console is warm while sleeping because of a setting to keep internet connection while sleeping. Have you tried disabling the setting? (I do see a downside to this setting, since I often start a game download and then hit sleep to download the rest while sleeping, which wouldn't work if the setting is disabled) https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch2/comments/1msij5t/has...

@WoomyNNYes Oh that's interesting.
They both use wi-fi connection but the setting is enabled. Might give this a try but hopefully this whole thing won't become a regular issue so it may not be necessary right now.
