Topic: Router Firewall Issues

I haven't seen anyone else post this problem anywhere ( Or if they have, I totally missed it ), but whenever I try to download something from the eShop on my 3DS, it always ends up in an error unless I turn off my router's firewall. Once I do, I have to keep it off until I'm finished downloading.

Anyone else having this problem? And better yet, anyone else have a solution? It'd be nice to not have to turn off my firewall just to download something. I really hope this won't be an issue with online play...

Does your router have UPnP enabled?

If you can't enable it or if it doesn't make a difference, then have you port forwarded your 3DS on your router?

If all else fails you can you can set your 3DS's IP address to DMZ on your router and then you won't have to turn off your firewall for it.

Thanks a lot! I didn't know if those would make a difference, I'll have to try them later when I get home. I hope they work!

Yeah, port forwarding. Try portforward.com
As long as you don't have my luck and have one of the 3 routers not on the list, it should be helpful

Hmm, well, I just tried all three methods provided here, but I still have the same problem as before.

Oh well, guess I'll be constantly disabling and re-enabling my router's firewall whenever I want to download something.

That's odd. Did you give your 3DS a static IP address (aka DHCP reservation) in your router before port forwarding it? Hmm... can't think of why this would happen. Maybe you've incorrectly set your WEP/WPA password on your 3DS?

Can your computers and other devices play games online without problems?

Well, at least it can work if you turn off the firewall. :/

I made sure to double check everything, following each step exactly. Everything is inserted correctly, I am sure of that. Really, the online itself works, it's just when I download titles, it'll give me an error unless I turn off the firewall.

Yeah, everything works fine. The 3DS is the first time this sort of thing's happened to me. Not even my DSi has these problems.

Thanks a lot for your help, though! I really, really appreciate it.
