I guess the title is not self-explanatory. Here's some context.
I have had Gamecube controllers since I got the system in 2001, but sadly those original controllers are busted (still good for pieces, though).
The GC controller I use the most is the one that I got in bundle with Smash Bros. for Wii U back in 2014. Some years ago, the triggers started to get stuck, as in I wasn't pressing them but the game still reacted as if they were pressed. Case in point, on Smash Bros. for Wii U and Ultimate my character was still shielding when I clearly let go of the triggers.
Today I finally decided to open that controller and one of the original ones to check any difference on the components of the triggers and I realized 2 differences.
1. The original 2001 controllers have a metallic piece that chains the button to the plastic piece that makes the action in the game react to the button pressing. My Smash controller doesn't have these pieces.
2. The springs in the 2001 controller are shorter than those of the Smash controller.
I put the metallic pieces on the Smash controller triggers and the problem seem to have been fixed. I didn't change the springs.
Now, my question is, do that metallic piece and the shorter springs make a difference when compared to newer controllers?
Sadly, I don't have a Nintendo Switch Online Gamecube Controller to check its triggers.
If what I'm saying is still not clear, I'll add some photos later.
