Topic: Ok so my gamepad won't turn on [update: this story is happy end]

A few minutes ago, while I was using the wiiu to watch a movie on the TV and I started preparing my bed for sleeping, my gamepad slipped from the bed and fell on it's back on the ground.

At first I was very scared because of any possible screen damage, but the screen seemed alright. Until some seconds later... Then the image started to disappear slowly.

Now it won't turn on or charge, taking out the battery allows me to turn it on but the screen never turns on and the blue led slowly turns off.

Sometimes the charging led does turn on, but it acts in a glitchy way. Stayin on even after unplugging.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas of what could be the cause and ways to fix it?

Best bet call Nintendo to schedule and send it in for a repair.

Doubt that would be a solution for me. I don't even know if there's that kind of official service in my country, and I'd rather not attract attention around the house

I considered opening it up and looking for disconnected stuff. But I'm not too confident about that.

Well if you are not too confident in doing that then probably the only thing would be to contact Nintendo and send it in for repair. Sadly its not like you can go buy another Gamepad and sync it.

Not sure what you meant about attracting attention around the house though.

If sending it to repair isn't an option, the only other would be to catch one for sale on Ebay (I see two there currrently at the time of this posting).

So, I decided to open it up. Which wasn't exactly easy because it uses those pesky three-point star thingies.

It seems all the problem was this:

Untitled

The black safety thing on that connector popped open when the thing fell off the bed. That caused everything

I secured it again and it seems to work just fine now

Shh...don't tell Nintendo that.

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

The fact that i preferred to open it instead of contacting Nintendo should hint that I hardly care about that.

Doubt this would've fallen into the warranty coverage anyway, seeing how I dropped the thing accidentally and it wasn't a defect of the game pad.

Good you got it fixed.
Am I the only one who doesn't freak out when he drops the gamepad? I don't often but the few times I've dropped it like you described I hardly worry the screen's going to crack.
Although my dad did manage to knock off the home button one time he was here using it, -_- It's just a white circle now and I have no idea where the button went.

Oh well, right now I'm using an iPad with a cracked screen. It's 100% usable, but the outer crystal is broken.

The iPad incident happened relatively recently and the fear of breaking more screens is still fresh.

Then again, the gamepad fell flat on it's back so a broken screen was not likely. The fact that the screen faded and it wouldn't turn back on was very scary though. I'm glad the problem was just a small trivial thing and not a broken anything,

Congrats on getting that case open without stripping those funky screws.

I used a screwdriver with a very small flat head. It was still rather hard to get them out though.

Thankfully, both the screws and the tool are fine.

Ah, that situation eh? Don't you just love it when that happens? :3

Yeah let's say that "Good morning dad, I broke the WiiU too!" Is not a good conversation starter.
