Topic: Nintendo Switch Won't Allow Online Play

Hi! So I've been looking into this problem a little bit myself but I need some extra help. For some backstory, my switch will connect to the internet just fine. I get excellent service in my room. I can add friends, see online activity, and access the E-Store. But here's where the problem begins: I'll use Animal crossing as my example. I can get as far as choosing which island to travel to, but when it comes time for liftoff or whatever, an error message comes up and says one or more consoles have stopped responding. According to my research, switches need one of two NAT types to be able to connect: A, or B. When I do an internet test, we apparently have type D. My switch will connect for online play just fine at my grandparents, so I can deduce that our router is the issue. The router is too old for me to be able to go in and manually change Port Forwarding..whatever that means. You see, I dont really know much about any of this. I'm interested in purchasing a new router. Does anyone know what routers would work with the switch? We use AT&T as our service provider if that helps. If anyone has any suggestions for which routers I should buy, or what you use, please do tell. Thanks so much in advance for anyone who can help me

@Graybay Can you play other games online?

If the problem router is old, maybe any current router offering via AT&T will work? Just thinking out loud....

@WoomyNNYes Unfortunately no, any time I try to play online with any game it gives me an error of some sort. It's super weird

@Graybay I have the same problem, NAT type D, I'm not sure a new router will fix the issue, I was told it was the internet provider that might be setting the NAT type.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable in this area can help you (and me) out with this

You can try placing your Switch in the DMZ on your router settings. This will most likely fix this for you. How to do this is covered on Nintendo's support site.
