Recently i had started using a Toshiba 750 GB hard drive with my Wii U, and i don't know if that is the reason, but ever since that, my Wii U has been freezing quite easily where i had to hold the power button on the system itself for 4 seconds to force it to shut down. What should I do?

Are you using a powered hard drive ? or a usb hub (That is powwred) ? or a Y Cable. Try those options before anything else. Check it is not just not getting enough power.

Sorry to sound a little dumb but what does it mean that it is powered, i have a Toshiba 750 GB external hard drive, it has a USB cable, that's it.

he asked if it's plugged on a power outlet, using two USB ports or neither(if it's neither that's what you're doing wrong)

Well I just used my system without the hard drive and the hard drive IS the problem. It only has ONE USB cable which connects into one USB slot of the Wii U. That's it, If i have to buy a hard drive that Nintendo themselves have recommended, then that's what i will do.
get a Y cable, it's probably freezing because the HD need more power. it's something like this:
don't have a WiiU but I have too much free time on my hands lately(exam season is coming so I must relax or the stress will pull my grades down) and I saw many people having similar problems(and the Y cable solved their problems every time)

Ok thanks i'm doing a search on amazon and it seems there are different kinds of Y cables, what EXACT Y cable am i looking for?
one compatible with your HD(just google "Y cable model of your HD" you'll probablt find it)
if you don't find it, wait for suggestions from someone else, that's as much as I can help(never used external HDs personally)

I'm hearing good things about this cable, it even says on the page that it is good for Wii U and there are reviews saying the same thing,
Just to make sure, when i order this and receive it, i have to plus BOTH USB's into the 2 USB ports on the front of the Wii U console and then attack the Hard drive to it, correct?
