In the past 24 hours, I’ve noticed that I can’t view embedded Youtube videos in the NintendoLife articles anymore. I just see the rectangle where the video should be, but it is entirely gray, with no ‘play’ button, no image of the videos content, but still has the “subscribe to NintendoLife on Youtube” text at the bottom.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
For what it’s worth, embedded Youtube videos are still working for me on all other websites.
You probably already tried these but just in case:
1. Try restarting your phone
2. Try closing out the safari app completely.
3. Check for updates
4. Toggle your wifi on/off (if your on wifi)
5. Make sure your on the mobile version of the website and not the desktop.
It’s working for me right now on an iPhone using the chrome app and safari. ios 14.7.
Same problem with me. I mentioned it in an article thread earlier today. Have tried a number of steps but haven’t found a solution yet. Also iPhone and safari.
@RunninBlue I've seen a few people reporting this but I'm unable to replicate it on my own iOS devices. It's something to do with the way the cookie consent system is working at the moment, for that I am sure.
Firstly, is this still happening for people? Are you on WiFi or 3G/4G etc? Does it happen EVERY time? or just sometimes? Do you have any additional adblocking software? Other than the iOS/Safari "dont track" feature?
No additional ad blocking, but don’t track is on. Also, both WiFi and cellular for me. I’m pretty sure for this site I just accept all, but maybe not every time it pops up. Also every time/video.
@antdickens Hi. It’s still happening. I’ve since learnt that refreshing the page 2-4 times, eventually gets the video to load for me. I probably have ios don’t track on. I always select ‘strictly necessary’ cookies only. No ad block.
I think it might related to the new security settings from the recent updates, specifically, the settings that prevent apps and sites from sharing information.
@Pirate1@RunninBlue@PoliticallyIncorrect eugh, this is frustrating — I still can't replicate the issue... it's working 100% of the time for me, unless I enable 'Block All Cookies' in Safari, then it doesn't work. But with that enabled it asks for cookie consent on EVERY page load.
How often are you seeing the cookie consent dialog?
Edit: I've also just published a newer version of the Cookie Consent script which may (hopefully) fix the issue
@antdickens I never got any cookie consent dialog when it happened to me. I only get that once in a while. I only noticed it once in the forum when jump posted a video.
There seems to be something unconventional about the way this site embeds YouTube videos into articles.
That recent article about The World Ends With You soundtrack by example, has six videos embedded.
When using the Windows 10 desktop version of Firefox, when you click back on any article with a YouTube embed, this will unload the embed and not navigate to the previous page. It is necessary to click back a second time to navigate back to where you were.
Further, this only unloads the first such embed, if there are multiple present on the article.
Articles without video embeds will allow you to navigate back by clicking back a single time.
