Topic: Bought a used locked WiiU

I recently purchased a used WiiU and when we got home the last user still has his account on it and we can't seem to get past it.

Is there a way I can reset and or delete his account on the system without password or pin information so we can use it?

@RobT I'm guessing that when you start the console you are only able to select the previous user's account (password protected) or "Add New User" (which requires a Parental Controls PIN). Obvious question, but have you tried to contact the seller for password/PIN details?

Without a password your only option is to create a new user account. You could guess the 4-digit Parental Controls PIN but it'll probably take a while trying every number from 0000 to 9999.

I've noticed from your profile that you are in Canada:

Parental Controls PIN Reset
Canadian customers, your Parental Controls PIN can be reset by contacting a support Specialist. Call 855-302-0606 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Pacific Time, 7 days a week.

Once you've disabled Parental Controls you'll have access to the System Settings and can delete the other person's account/format the system:

How to Delete All Content & Settings (Format)
1. From the Wii U Menu, select "System Settings."
2. Using the Left Stick, scroll to the "Delete All Content & Settings" and press the A Button.
3. Please read the information displayed on your TV screen, and then tap "Next."
4. Wait for a few seconds, and then tap "Delete Everything."

Note: If you receive the message, "An Internet connection is required to delete all content and settings from the console," then you will need to connect the Wii U to the internet before proceeding.

Hope that helps.

@Monkey_Balls If this was a stolen Wii U, you could have just assisted in the thief covering their tracks...

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@gcunit Ha, yes the thought did occur when I was asking if RobT had contacted the seller for the password/PIN. Ah well, the info I posted can be found online anyway. It's not like the Nintendo Police will show up or anythi- was that a knock at my door?
