I don't really like olive garden either. Seems like they pump a lot of butter into their sauces and i feel pretty sick after eating a lot of their stuff.

I get the Chicken Parmigiana. Not a ton of butter in that, I don't think.
One of my favorite fast-food places from here in Chicago is Portillo's. That is such an awesome place. I'm placing Culver's in 2nd for obvious reasons as well. There's also a good in taste but terrible on the wallet and overall health pizza chain called Aurelio's that pretty awesome.
Portillo's is excellent. I kinda like Culver, but I agree that the price is pretty high. AURELIO'S IS THE BEST PIZZA EVER.
That being said, I like Red Lobster (mmm, seafood), TGIFridays (though they're kind of expensive for what you get) and Schoop's. Schoop's shakes are excellent, and you can even get a Green River soda from there. <3
Italian: Spaghetti Factory (Not sure if they are local to California or Nationwide) Mexican: Coco Locos (a family own local resturant that has the best mexican ever) Seafood: Red Lobster Steak: Sizzler Tex-mex: Chilis Other: Applebees Hamburger: Jolly Burger (another family own resturant that deals with Hamburgers) Pizza: Godfathers Sandwich: Mr. Pickles
Question: can we really count fast food franchise outlets as restaurants? I mean, comparing those to a real restaurant's food is apples to oranges?
Yeah, I know what you're saying. They're not all bad, but nothing compares to a "real" restaurant.
Absolutely. I love my junk food as much as the next guy. But I would never call a MacDonalds, Pizza Hut KFC, OPorto, Nandos etc etc (to use the common Australian chains) a "restaurant."

I'm pretty sure Americans either don't see the distinction or don't care enough about it for it to matter to them.
I love Swensen's Grill & Ice Cream. Best ice cream I've ever had, and the meals are generous and delicious. I also love the giant mugs they serve root beer in. It originally started in San Francisco but it's expanded to quite a few other countries.

Webster: –noun [an establishment where meals are served to customers.] I'm American and I'm fairly certain of the definition of a restaurant. I do make a distinction, at least in my own family and friend circle, with the terms "fast-food restaurant" and "sit-down restaurant". No crazy generalizations needed.
Now to the topic at hand: My favorite's Olive Garden: Their "Mixed Grill" is freaking awesome. No pasta sauce on it either. 5 Guys Burgers and Fries: Yes their hamburgers are the best fast-food restaurant hamburgers I've ever tasted. Their fries are pretty decent as well. California Pizza: My favorite sit-down pizza restaurant. Papa Johns: My favorite take-out pizza Pei Wei: This is the "fast-food" version of PF Changs and their both owned by the same people. They're chicken fried rice and Sweet-and-Sour chicken are both pretty groovy. Lone Star: Nice steaks. My wife digs their Filet Mignon but even their "regular" steaks are tender, moist, and flavorful. Chick Fil A: Best "chicken-oriented" fast food restaurant and a tad lower on the calorie count than most other fast-food joints. Honorable mentions: pretty much any place that has free bread. Mmmmmmmm....bread. Probably a few more I can't remember atm.
In Europe and Australia (probably all Commonwealth countries) anyway, the meaning or interpretation of the word restaurant is more specific than "places where you can get food". People would look at you funny if you talked about going to a restaurant and then suggested McDonald's, lol. Usually it means a more upmarket establishment than a fast food outlet. Big cultural difference there, I assume.
The burgers in the USA outmatch the burgers anywhere else in the world. This is a verifiable fact. All of you Americans, don't bother eating burgers outside of the States. You will not be satisfied at all.
Oh I guess were talking about chains and franchises here not local places which you couldnt goto anyway so I guess for fast food Id have to say chick fil a, wingstop and subway if thats fast food and for other places olive garden I guess(but they mispell alot of italian words) and you know I cant really think of nothing else Im trying to =O
For um not-chains, there's this place in louisiana I forget where but they had the best gumbo I ever had(it was duck and andouille) and then theres this place in jackson, ms called kiefers I think and they had good gyros, a place in san antonio, tx had the best mexican food ever and I cant go back to taco bell any more after that and finally theres a local sushi place that I like. Forgot one place in atlanta, ga catering place I think at a wedding but they had amazing red velvet cake that I dream of at night Ive tried many recipes from like food network com but none were as great as that was mmmm
Here's another reason 5 Guys is awesome: One "regular" order of fries is enough fries for my whole family. They fill up a medium-sized cup until it spills over, then they throw a giant scoop of fries in the bag on top of it. It's rather expensive to eat there for 1 person: Hamburger + fries + drink = around 9-10 bucks. Thankfully it actually gets cheaper with 4 ppl because of the whole fry-sharing thing.
