Id rather see money than making a moderate success kfr flop with critical complaint. If it were up to me Sony would have fired udea years ago.
In all honesty I would split the rare work force. One team to work on old ops for chlamydiae and another bigger team to work on kinect. And next gen stuff.
Also its been heavily hinted on twitter that rares next game is theereie.
WAT!

Maybe Rare should just sell their IPs to Retro so we can get those amazing titles back on the Wii U!
That would be great, but then what would Rare work with??
what about with retro?
Pssh, like I said their primary focus is now Kinect Sports and games like that so since they obviously don't care about their previous IPs, let someone else handle it so we can have those amazing titles back.
yeah, i suppose if they are going to continue making crappy shovelware, they're probably better off with ubisoft for that then.
I disagree, while Ubisoft is guilty for making a buttload of crap, they've also created a lot of high quality games. I was looking at my current game collection a few ago and realized that nearly all my Xbox 360 games were Ubisoft games.
I always thought it was Nintendo itching to offload Rare to Microsoft because, after the unspectacular showing of the GameCube, Nintendo needed the extra cash infusion to refocus their business plan (not competing directly with Sony and Microsoft, instead becoming an ancillary entity in the console market) and to fund the development of the Wii...
And besides, it was during the Gamecube era that the amazing Retro Studios first made its mark so yeah, Nintendo may have lost Rare but gained Retro instead, plus Retro had just hired two top developers from Naughty Dog studios so let's see what they have planned

i like assassins creed and rayman origins has received a lot of stellar reviews, especially 9, 10 ratings.
Just read the Eurogamer article. It was an interesting read and it confirmed my suspicions.
Rare wanted money, Nintendo wouldn't give them more (likely due to financial problems at the time and that they're a Western development studio, you'd be crazy to think they wouldn't do the same with Retro if given the chance) and instead decided to lowball Rare, so Rare went into talks with others...EA, Activision...and finally Microsoft.
Microsoft agreed to acquire Rare after an Activision acquisition fell through... Microsoft paid for Rare and effectively made Nintendo and Rare staff quite a good deal of money. Problem was, Rare was so used to functioning with Nintendo's leadership that despite the large infusion of money, without guidance, they didn't know what they were doing and many of the staff, now rich from the sale, waited for their contracts to allow them to leave the company.
Rare killed Rare.
What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.

@Lordlz: Basically, if Nintendo were in the same financial situation now as they were with the GameCube...Retro Studios, being a well respected Western subsidiary, would be a likely candidate for sale.

Can you imagine Rare and Retro under Nintendo. That would a killer combination!
the only way rare can be rescued is if nintendo bought them out from microsoft. i'd like to see killer instinct, become nintendo's flagship fighting game, like capcom has with streetfighter and namco with tekken. which nintendo hasn't really had.

None of you have answered the question. all I hear butthurt nintendo fans blabbing off with out giving examples of stifled creativety or how the gameplay mechanics were more refined than newer ones.
All that seems to come out is that people are pissed that they don't work on their old ip's and the last banjo game wasn't a collectathon.
