@AlexSora89 Guess we are both NRU refugee XD
I also started to check around here a lot in 2013 when NRU started to fade away (I also didn't know some of its writers were still in gaming sites, glad they managed to stay somehow in the business, loved their work).
Another reason why I started visiting NL however was for their old "we review everything" policy.
I understand that nowaday it's impossible with the flood of titles hitting the eShop, but back then it was impressive and very useful how every single game was reviewed, even the most obscure DSiWare ones,
I found Nintendo Life in 2013 back when the team used to have a big presence at EGX, checked out the site and it was fantastic. The site isn't as good as it used to be before 2018 but it's still a much more enjoyable place to be than the options that continue to get cited as reasons why forums are shut down (social media, reddit, Discord, etc.).
I joined just in time for 3DS hardware speculation, mid 2009. Not sure why I joined and kept posting exactly, I think it may have been not long after the death of a couple of other forums I was a regular poster on. This was around the time when the explosion of Facebook was killing off a lot of fan forums so I was wandering the internet looking for a new place to rant.
edit: Apparently I first joined to post this. I'm saying "DSiVC" because 3DS wasn't announced until a year after:
Long time reader but just registered to comment because I thought this was a worthy topic to comment.
Wii VC:
Unirally (was talked about at launch... what happened?)
Super Mario Kart (sits permanently in my SNES in the other room)
The Lost Vikings
Mario Paint
Super Tennis
Donkey Kong 64 (never played it)
DOS games like Captain Comic, Lemmings, Duke Nukem, Doom
DSi VC:
Donkey Kong Land (my copy is broken )
Mario Tennis GBC (easily one of the best games I played on the GBC)
Pokemon...... although haven't we had enough remakes already?
Tetris
Super Mario Land
... would have mentioned Game & Watch but that's already happening
Back high school I was a bit of a closet nerd. By that I mean everyone knew I was a nerd except for me, so I ended up befriending people who didn't share a lot of my interests. Move into 2011-2012ish when the Wii U is announced and the new Smash Bros gets announced. This got me really excited, and I really wanted to talk about it with someone. For that I started going onto GameFAQs.
Unfortunately, GameFAQs became a legit behavioral addiction for me. To the point that I was endangering my future going on. The moderation on GameFAQs is incredibly limited, and the community there one that will give attention to literally anything. So I had an outlet to talk about things that interested me, but then literally unlimited attention. And it isn't always positive attention. For those of you who are on GameFAQs, it can be a bit of a cesspool at times.
I first joined NintendoLife in 2013ish during my first attempt to stop going on GameFAQs. Unfortunately, I think I got bored and convinced myself I could handle it, and I went back on. I finally managed to break away in fall 2014. Since then NL has allowed me to continue discussing some of my interests that I don't share with my friends. But with its far stronger moderation and less toxic community, it hasn't sucked me in completely.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
Joined in March 2017 as I got a Switch on launch day - my first Nintendo console. Had more or less given up on consoles for the preceding five years or so (had very small children at the time) in favour of mobile gaming - which really isn’t as bad as it sounds, if you like RPGs. Decided the Switch was the right console and the right time to get back into proper games. A few other forum users on mobile sites seemed to be doing the same thing - TouchArcade has dedicated coverage for the Switch - and one or two of them suggested Nintendo Life as having an equally active and generous online community. So here I am!
I started lurking when the website for Official Nintendo Magazine closed around the time the magazine stopped being published here in the UK, so late 2014. One of the last posts on the forums mentioned that people were jumping ship to Nintendolife as an alternative so I did so too. Before that I subscribed to the magazine from 2010 during the Wii era.
Nintendolife was a godsend during the fallow Wii U years. I too was one of those fools who got a Wii U.
..... and physical copies of most of the available games too 😂
‘You swapped three different N64 games for Pokemon Stadium? Where’s your pride? Your dignity?!?
Joined the forums back in 2015. It was a pretty weird year for a Nintendo fan. BOTW got delayed, Nintendo just announced the NX and they went for extremely long without any directs after E3. The speculation at the time was just crazy!
This blue eye perceives all things conjoined. The past, the future, and the present. Everything flows and all is connected. This eye is not merely seen reality. It is touching the truth. Open the eye of truth... There is nothing to fear.
@SheldonRandoms
1) What in tarnation is a Mario Calculator?? Hahaha
2) IS IT also a scientific calculator?
3) Does NL actually have a review on this? How did I not know about this until now??
I found the Youtube channel first. It was Alex's lovely presentation skills that persuaded me to check it out. Now I visit it daily. Reminds me of when I used to go to Cube Europe every day (later N-Europe?).
I joined in the earlier days. I don't entirely remember if the account info has been consistent the entire time or if I had to re-enter it at any point or whatever. But I was visiting when it was a niche Wiiware site, because nothing else was.
I joined the forums because it was a Nintendo forum and I had things to say I guess. I stuck around because internet forums were largely replaced by the infinitely more terrible social media sites. Internet forums have not ruined society so its as objectively better as things get.
I want to say it was around 2006 or 2007. The website was called vc-reviews and was the best source when it came to information about the Wii Virtual Console.
@kkslider5552000 I so agree. Much prefer forums to Social Media. I know that is just the way the world is, and most people just use them, but I have much fonder memories of forums
