Just a small question that popped into my head. I was a part of NL since the Wii U came out and as a big fan of Nintendo I also joined PlayerEssence (his website is down nowadays but he has an over-enthusiastic YouTube channel nowadays). When did you guys all first make your account here or even just click to browse?
Honestly during the Wii U times I remember this site being very depressing to be on, all the comments were difficult to read and all so full of negativity that I stopped going on the site. Makes sense considering the countless failings of Nintendo during that timeframe. Clearly it's not the same story anymore.
Got the Switch at launch. By the time Mario Odyssey released, nintendolife became my preferred site for Nintendo news, and still is. Plus, the site is well moderated. @Eel helped me with one of my early thread questions. I joined November 2017. Alex Olney's videos on youtube may have been part of how I first discovered nintendolife.
@WoomyNNYes I think Alex single-handedly revived this community. His enthusiasm in his articles and videos really brought it back, without him, it wouldn't be the same.
Im even almost certain a lot of long-time moderators and writers of this site will agree. This website was really dying through the Wii U days, it had a small recurrent community but it only became a massively popular Nintendo news website once Alex started developing content for it.
I'd only like for the current big names of NL to outsource a little, their writers are very diverse in taste of video games but you don't need to only play Nintendo to give meaningful contribution to the website. That's why I enjoy the recent mentions of NieR and other franchises only available on other consoles, because without this we wouldn't have any kind of reaction to the card game shown in the most recent major Direct.
@1UP_MARIO During the Wii U days or when you joined? I'm confident it was called NintendoLife for the past 10 years unless my age is starting to show detriments at 23.
I joined in 2013. After E3 2013, the only systems that looked interesting were 3DS and Wii U (PS4 had a boring lineup and my interest in Xbox plummeted after that infamous XB1 reveal) so I went back to my 3DS and bought a Wii U later on that year. Came across Nintendo Life which seemed like the best Nintendo news site at the time and stayed.
I joined in April 2010. I actually stumbled across the site looking for a list of games that was released on the Wii VC. I can't remember where maybe it was Wikipedia but the site I found had a link to NL and I clicked on it and haven't left since.
@Varkster Nintendo Life does have two sister sites Push Square, which is the Playstation site and Pure Xbox which is for Xbox. Your login even works there so if you are interested in more then Nintendo I suggest checking those sites out.

@Tasuki Nah, I've been to those sites, I know. It definitely doesn't seem like a community I'd want to be part of. A lot of what incentivises me to be part of NL is that a lot of people here actually give (sometimes strong) opinions which have a lot of merit. The two "sister sites" have a lot of bias and no good takes on the topics that do happen. It just seems like a constant struggle between the fans of this site and fanboys aimlessly defending every decision by said company.
If I were to look for a site dedicated to Sony or MS fanbases, I'd honestly much rather look elsewhere.
I joined this site in September 2020 so my account is only a year old. Truth be told I don't exactly remember why I joined lol. The switch was the first console I invested in so I remember wanting a place to be hyped about the directs and talk about new releases. Given the name of the site, I figured this would be the correct place to do that lmao.
I recently ventured on the "y cant metroid crawl" article for obvious nostalgic reasons and I found it wild that almost none of the users from that time were still here commenting. It's most likely an age thing with people focusing on things like university, but damn, almost nobody from that time is around nowadays and even the people that are, are around in a very limited light.
I officially joined april of 2020, but i was a lurker for awhile. I started reading stuff on Nintendo Everything and eventually moved here. COVID played a part in me making a profile. Really needed others to talk to, and fortunately for me the users here are a good bunch.
