So, just wanted to say I've been going to this site for news for about a little over a year now. I know comments on the stories can get heated sometimes, but I like this community much better than the ones I've been to before.
I was very curious to see what some of the people here consider their greatest games of all time. I'm assuming Nintendo games will come up a lot, but really wanted to know the Top 10 with all platforms being game.
Here's mine, in no particular order:
Star Fox
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
StarCraft
Star Fox 64
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Infinite Space
Xenoblade Chronicles
Overwatch
I have basically been Nintendo and PC all my life. Really looking forward to any responses, and thanks for reading.
1. Kingdom Hearts 2
2. Sonic Colors
3. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
4. Xenoblade Chronicles
5. Kirby Super Star Ultra
6. Sonic Adventure 2
7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
9. Star Wars Battlefront 2 (Ps2, not the new game).
10. Pokémon Diamond
I like Smash Wii U over Melee. FIGHT ME.
I'm addicted to amiibo. Full collection of the Smash series....help me....please...
Also, I like to go fast, really fast.

I love threads like these.I always spend far too long writing my comment though when it comes to top 10's and am never fully happy with it so I'll keep it simple this time.Although the temptation is there to go more in depth I'll just list them in no particular order and without a description as to why they're my favourites.
Apart from the Atari 2600 and Spectum 128k,I've only ever owned SEGA and Nintendo consoles so my list will be made up from those.I've owned every UK released console/contraption from SEGA except for the Game Gear and from the 64 onwards, every Nintendo home/handheld except for the GBC and 3DS.So with that said, here's my list.
Landstalker (MD)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (MD)
Shenmue 1 and 2 (DC)
Soul Calibur (DC)
Super Mario 2D/3D series and Yoshi's Island. Also MK Wii and 8 and Dr Mario Wii /Luigi (sorry I had to)
Splatoon
Ocarina of Time (64)
Diddy Kong Racing (64)
Breath of the Wild (it's more than earned its place)
Goldeneye (64)
With a big shout out to,Hellfire,Silpheed,Powerstone 1 and 2,Metropolis Street Racer,Blast Corps,Eternal Darkness,Windwaker HD,Xenoblade Chronicles,Street Fighter Alpha 3, and Wacky Races on the Dreamcast, loved that game.I could go on for ages and probably end up editing my list but I'll leave it at that.
Edit : and of course Speedball 2.How could I forget Speedball 2.That belongs in my top 10 but I don't know what to remove. So it's my top 11 now.
1. Metroid Prime Hunters - +1,600 hours
2. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - +120 hours
3. Xenoblade Chronicles - +230 hours
4. Super Metroid - +100 hours
5. Super Mario 64 DS - +100 hours
6. New Super Mario Brothers - ~100 hours
7. Animal Crossing Wild World - ~+300 hours
8. WarioWare: Touched! - <100 hours
9. Sonic Rush - <100 hours
10. Meteos - <100 hours
The list is not definite beyond the Top 4. The rest could be replaced by the likes of Overwatch, Pikmin 2, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, any of the other 3D Mario games (besides Galaxy 2, 3D Land and World), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Metroid Prime...depending on my mood upon making a Top 10 list. Usually I want to represent a handful of genres while showing some love to the Nintendo DS, which, library-wise, is by far my favorite system.
"The secret to ultimate power lies in the Alimbic Cluster."
Only started playing games during the PSone and N64 era, therefore the likes of the SNES or Mega Drive doesn't feature anywhere on my top ten list; I was too young to play those!
1) Final Fantasy VII (PSone)
2) Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
3) Rez (Dreamcast)
4) ICO (PlayStation 2)
5) Journey (PlayStation 3)
6) Bloodborne (PlayStation 4)
7) Metroid Prime (GameCube)
8) Super Monkey Ball (GameCube)
9) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GameCube)
10) The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS)
Mario Kart 8 (Wii U) is absolutely brilliant and it would have easily squeezed into my top ten, but setting the Battle Mode on normal circuit tracks was a huge mistake. I was also bowled over by Resident Evil 4 (GameCube) back in the day however, upon a second play through, I didn't enjoy it nowhere near as much.
Honourable mentions to Banjo-Kazooie (N64), BioShock (Xbox 360), Elite Beat Agents (DS), Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (GameCube), Gravity Rush (PS Vita), Kororinpa (Wii), The Last of Us (PlayStation 3), Metroid Fusion (GBA), Oddworld: Abe's Oddyssey (PSone), Shadow of the Colossus (PlayStation 2), The Witness (PlayStation 4) and Year Walk (iOS).
Joint first place goes to OoT (3DS) and Oracle of Ages/Seasons (GBC) (I classify the oracle games as one game, you don't get the full experience without both)
The other eight are in no particular order as they are all phenomenal games
Grim Fandango (PC)
Metroid Prime (Wii)
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
LEGO City Undercover (Wii U)
Deus Ex (PC)
Dwarf Fortress (PC) (willing to wait 20 more years for version 1.0)
Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor (3DS)
Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (Wii)
Very Honourable mentions to
Morrowind (PC)
Phoenix Wright 1 (DS)
SMT IV (3DS)
LEGO Batman 2 (PC)
Broken Sword (PC)
Age of Wonders Shadow Magic (PC)
Unreal Tournament (PC)
Chrono Trigger (DS)
Evil Genius (PC)
Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday (Mega Drive)
The honourable mentions deserve to be in the top ten, but it's hard to chose when there are so many fantastic games.
5: Pokémon Blue (GB) ..didn't stop 'til I caught 'em all!
6: Football Manager 2017 (PC) ..I'm a football (soccer) nerd
7: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (X360) ..fantasy epic that I never tire of playing!
8: Red Dead Redemption (X360) ..GTA: Wild West - played it to death, love it forever!
9: Mario Kart Wii (Wii) ..my favourite racing game ever!
10: Age of Empires II (PC) ..highly addictive strategy game!
11: Wii Sports (Wii) ..the game I was able to enjoy with the broadest range of people!
Too many honourable mentions to list really! You can check out my NL games collection for a more in-depth look at the Nintendo-related games that I like (and dislike!) ..from other (non-NL) platforms - I think that Slider (GG), Theme Park/Hospital (PC), Empire Earth II (PC), every Football/Championship Manager (PC), TimeSplitters I/II (PS2), Grand Theft Auto III/Vice City/San Andreas (PS2), NHL 2003 (PS2), Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PSP), Grand Theft Auto IV/V (X360), Dead Island (X360), LA Noire (X360), Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (X360), Project CARS (PS4), Rocket League (PS4) and No Man's Sky (PS4) deserve special praise ..and, of course, who could forget Snake (Nokia 3210)?!
I too love lists, but embarassingly always struggle on this topic. I love games, but over the course of my life, mostly due to limited money, there are so few that I've really got to know fully or completed etc. Until recently, my most intense gaming period was back in the days of the Amiga A500. Many of my entries on this list are more for a series than a specific game. but let's give this a go anyway:
In no particular order:
Sensible Soccer Speedball 2 Super Cars 2 Championship/Football Manager Mario Kart 8 Deluxe TLoZ: Breath of the Wild FIFA Splinter Cell Assassins Creed Left 4 Dead
Theme Park is probably the most iffy entry. I've probably burned out on it now after recently picking up the DS version, but it always stood out to me as something fun to do.
There are many, many more games that I now have in my collection that can compete for a space in that list, but I've got to play them first. And the problem is, back in the day, the few games I had didn't have to compete with the massive backlog I have now.
Edit: I've done away with Syndicate and replaced it with Splinter Cell. Syndicate was great and I remember completing it, but I've never played it since, whereas Splinter Cell has a whole series of great games.
Edit 2: I've had to do away with Theme Park. It would be disingenuous not to include FIFA. So many hours spent playing and loving various iterations in that series.
Here's a quick list I came up with. I might have missed something but it's close enough. I could give the 10th place to many different games but I decided to give it to Amazing Mirror. It's not that popular but I love it.
1. Zero Escape series (cheating a bit, 999 is my favorite of the series)
2. Pokémon Gold
3. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS
4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
5. Super Mario 64
6. Splatoon
7. Bravely Default
8. The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
9. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
10. Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
1. Ocarina of Time
2. A link to the past
3. Resident Evil 4
4. Advance Wars
5. Pokémon (diamond)
6. Breath of Wild
7. Super Mario 64
8. Links Awakening
9. Mariokart SNES
10. Chrono Trigger
I like lists too, mine's not in any particular order and I'll probably think of one I missed later, but loved all these games to death. .
10. Resident Evil remake (what a stroke of genius! Capcom took the cheesy, if lovable, original game and completely remade it from the ground up into something truly scary and well-designed. This game does atmosphere better than almost any other survival horror game I've ever played, and it represents the RE series at its heights: scary monsters and atmosphere combined with shotguns and rocket launchers, which somehow don't spoil the ambiance)
9. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (a weird, dark, and well-designed little nightmare. The focus on a compact but much denser world full of secrets to uncover and stories to learn absolutely won me over. This game is nothing like any other entry in the series, and it's all the better for it)
8. Etrian Odyssey IV (yes, it's a bit easier than other games in the series, but it makes up for this with some of the best music, mechanics, and gameplay in the entire series. The fully explorable overworld is transformative. It also has the best organic approach to storytelling that I've seen in the entire series)
7. Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse (while it's missing some of the horror and mystery of previous SMT games, this entry has some of the best gameplay and dungeon crawling in the entire series. This was an incredibly addictive and rewarding experience from beginning to end, and it's easily the best JRPG on the 3DS)
6. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (ok, if Kotaru Uchikoshi is basically the M. Night Shyamalan of the video game world, then this game is his equivalent of The Sixth Sense: a crafty, mesmerizing nightmare full of engaging puzzles and a twisty, unforgettable narrative that could only be told as a video game)
5. Super Mario Galaxy (a magical adventure with the right mix of glorious music, creative platforming, and hints of melancholy. Absolutely my favorite platformer)
4. Silent Hill (the sequel has a better story, but, for my money, no other game in the series has been scarier. The visuals are grimy and eerie, the soundtrack is full of terrifying industrial music, and pretty much all the locations are scary even before you transition to the nightmarish alternate Silent Hill)
3. Metal Gear Solid (the classic action-stealth adventure, with the most iconic villains, setpieces, story, and setting in the entire series)
2. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete (the JRPG as an odyssey full of fun characters, music, humor, and romance; this game, more than any other, encapsulates the timeless magic of the PS1-era JRPG for me)
1. Final Fantasy VII (the original blockbuster video game, and still one of the most complete experiences I've ever had on any system)
Too many games I can't include on this list that I absolutely love. What about Breath of the Wild? Persona 5? Corpse Party? Metroid Prime and Zero Mission? Monster Rancher 2? Shadow of the Colossus? Danganronpa 2? etc. etc.
I bet this will be a different order than last time I wrote these out but it'll definitely be the same games, probably:
10. The Last Of Us
9. Fire Emblem Awakening
8. Mass Effect 2
7. Half-life 2
6. Final Fantasy 7
5. Mario Galaxy
4. Xenoblade Chronicles
3. Dark Souls
2. Ocarina Of Time
1. Final Fantasy 9
Single Player:
1. Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)
2. Ocarina of Time (N64)
3. Super Mario 64 (N64)
4. Metroid Prime (GCN)
5. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (GCN)
6. Fire Emblem: Fates (3DS)
7. Portal (PC)
8. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (WiiU)
9. Tales of Symphonia (GCN)
10. Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver (NDS)
This list was made with the rule that only one game can appear per franchise. Otherwise the list would literally be 6 Zelda games, 3 Metroid Prime games, and 1 mario game and that's boring.
This list is tough though. I would prefer to list top 10 gaming franchises instead of individual games. Nintendo's franchises are so strong in quality that certain spots in my top ten could have any number of games from a particular franchise. For example #2 could just as well be WW, MM, TP, SS, or BotW instead of OoT. And #10 could be B2W2 or ORAS instead of HGSS.
Top 3 Multiplayer:
1. Super Smash Bros for Wii U (Wii U)
2. Mario Kart 8 (Wii U)
3. Splatoon (Wii U)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)
F-Zero GX (GC)
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (GC)
Rock Band 4 (XB1)
Hyrule Warriors Legends (3DS)
Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii)*
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (360)
Halo: The Master Chief Collection (XB1)*
Halo 5 (XB1)
Halo Wars 2 Ulimate Edition (XB1)*
*I know collections are kind of cheating but I'm including them anyway. Metroid Prime Trilogy was one of the few games in existence that did motion controls right and so it was really nice having a smoother experience with the first 2 games. While MCC was very rough to begin with, I didn't get a XB1 until June 2015 of which most of the issues with the game had already been resolved. Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition comes with Halo Wars Definitive Edition and the season pass so you've essentially got 2 fantastic fully complete games in 1 package, really excited for the story DLC that's apparently being revealed at E3.
Honourable mention goes to Forza Horizon 3, that game is extremely fun and also has a fantastic soundtrack even including a song from one of my favourite albums of last year.
It's a tough question. A lot of variety in the lists here but a serious lack of Super Metroid. For shame NL community. For shame.
In no particular order (the order changes by my mood - just about any of them could be in just about any position on any given day).
1. Super Metroid
2. Zelda A Link to the Past
3. Earthbound
4. Yoshi's Island (I remember playing this game thinking "games can't get much better than this" and they haven't)
5. Tetris
6. Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door
7. Mario Galaxy 2
8. Chrono Trigger
9. Sid Miers Alpha Centauri (just edges it over Civ IV. If the Fall From Heaven II mod were a little more focused and polished though...)
10. Zelda Breath of the Wild
I think the biggest honourable mention would be Wind Waker HD. It would have got in on another day.
Glad to see the posts! Since people are doing honorable mentions I'll add Skies of Arcadia, Metroid Prime, Super Metroid and Legend of Zelda (NES).
@MarcelRGuez I actually liked Star Fox Zero. The controls were good to me, and I wish it could be brought to Switch with more conventional play so it would have another chance with the masses. My big problem is the endgame...not trying to spoil it for anybody but it feels a little slapped together. Final Boss was good but I feel like the lead up to him was rushed. Venom was not what I was expecting, and I get the feeling Platinum might have handled it differently with more time.
† - I find Super Metroid (SNES), Tales of Vesperia (360), & Dragon Quest VIII (3DS) to be equal to the entries I chose, they just got the edge because I played them first.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
