Mario having to save Peach from Bowser. Whats not to love?

Also the fact that somehow after [most] Metroid games Samus loses all her abilities for some reason. Its a humerous, unexplainable situation.

Read the title wrong. I thought it was a negative topic. (I love negative topics.)

I don't enjoy any cliches. I find them all appalling.

Just for you.

The fact that most have a bigger baddy suddenly showing up that's been pulling the strings after you defeat what you think was the final boss. I always get a kick out of that one.

I love the boss battles where both you and the boss can take quite a bit of damage but the boss still takes a ton more hits and effort to defeat. No More Heroes is a great example of this.

Multi-stage boss battles. Where the boss starts out doing one thing, but 33% of health later, it does something completely different. The last 33% it does something even more different.

Goichi Suda's great at those. Lollipop Chainsaw is my favourite.

Oh yes! I love those too.

My favorite has to be Ansem from the first Kingdom Hearts. Probably not the best multi-stage boss battle out there, but it was my first

Thats actually one of my least favorite cliches. Especially how Kid Icarus did it.

Now now. Not all topics are negative.

Just pretend to like cliches. Which ones do you "like"?

I loved how Kid Icarus Uprising did it though. I felt it was rather funny in how they did the reveal, and that they did it sooner than just beat big boss and move onto the next big boss straight away. But I can see where you're coming from,

I don't mind the Mario style excuse plot, if that counts as a cliche. Don't need anything more than save the princess/prince/king/queen/world/country/whatever as a reason to go off and defeat bad guys.

I also don't mind collectathons like all those Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1 platformers where you run around a giant level trying to collect shiny objects for whatever reason. When did that somehow get seen as a bad thing?

And finally, I don't mind the 'stale' formula of many big name series. I like the old Zelda routine of 'go into dungeon, beat mini boss for item, use dungeons to beat puzzles and boss, use item to unlock next dungeon' or the Pokemon one of 'collect eight badges and face the Elite Four and champion' that's in every game. Everyone always talks about spicing it up or changing the formula, yet honestly I don't care for that. I think the formulas in those series worked perfectly fine the way they were.
